    Post Microchip Details.

Please make sure that when your dog is microchipped that you actually check that the chip scans your details!

My neighbour lost her puppy and it went back to the breeder although she had changed the details.

I got Kimba scanned a while ago to make sure it worked and nothing came up! I had signed the paperwork to have the details changed and not even the Rspca came up!
Luckily she wasn't lost! I have now sorted it out and also make sure if you move states or buy a dog from another state you make sure they are in that system (for example I adopted Kimba from Canberra yet live in NSW)

Better to be safe and check next Vet appointment!

    So true Sharoo...

The best way of your pet being to returned to you is to ensure they are chipped, registered and all contact details up to date.

I know there are problems with scanners not working at times in pounds and shelters, vets etc.

Always ensure your pets are wearing a collar with a tag showing your phone numbers. Often it will save animals from being impounded (and the stress/fees associated)

All mine (rescues too) wear collars and tags with all contact numbers, i also have written on one side "I am chipped and Registered"

You are spot on, it only takes a couple of minuites to scan your dogs and make sure all details are up to date, it may save their life and it's free.

You can also pop into your local pound/shelter to do this.

All I have is some stickers with their numbers on it from the forms I filled out at the vets

Kimba had paperwork come through a few weeks later (more than a month).
If you go past the vet pop in and just get them scanned just in case and to see what comes up.

    Hi Sharoo

A quick post, all rescued animals are chipped from shelters and pounds prior to adoption/rescue once you have chosen to go ahead. Further registration info and details should reach you within 7 to 10 days. IMO one month is an unrealistic and unreasonable length of time.

The paper work you received is standard yet crucial as this is your receipt of purchase/ proof of new ownership essentially, the stickers are extra copies of your bubs chip details, you can add them to your diary, files on your babies etc.

I agree 100% with ensuring chips are sorted and all contact details up to date

    Thanks for your help

I'll take Candy down to the vet today and get the info on the chip checked.
I thought more than 4 weeks was a bit too long...but then again, I waited nearly 2 months for my newborn birth certificate
