    Default Worlds Worst Training Kennel.

    Not happy.
Took Apollo, our 13 month old dobermann, to a training kennel for 3 weeks while we were on holiday. Basically all we wanted out of the place was to teach him loose lead walking, and to sit square.
When we picked him up he had lost about 10kgs (he weighed 36kg when we dropped him off). The trainer told us he was quite overweight when we dropped him off (A complete lie. People always comented about how good he looed and how muscley he was) When he got home he drank 4L of water! We never took him out the yard for a week after he got home because I have no doubt that if somebody complained about his condition we would have had to answer to the RSPCA he was that bad.
Then we found out how they trained him. Choke the hell out of him until he does what you want. If he doesn't sit straight just kick him, it won't take long for him to learn. If he puts his head in front of you while walking just knee him, he'll learn. We were shocked. He was absolutely terrified and just cowered in a corner at home all the time.
Now, despite all the things this training was supposed to address, he is pulling clothes off the line, chewing everything, digging holes, and peeing everywhere, including in the house. None of which he did prior to this training.
Needless to say he will never be setting foot back in that place again, and to be quite honest, it wouldn't bother me in the least if the place was shut down and charges were laid on the owners and trainers. The whole affair has made me sick to the stomach.

Your poor dog!!! I hope he is going to be alright!

That's so disgusting that they think by training dogs but using negativity it'll actually work? HUH!!!! That's so stupid, I'm very upset for you and if i where you i'd make charges against these people, ring the RSPCA take your dog down to them and show them what they've done, do whatever you can to get that place shut down!!

I find it hard to believe the place is still in business. And that they were stupid enough to tell you how they treated him.

Some dogs will loose weight in kennels, and it's hard work to maintain the weight of those dogs.

I worked in kennels and we had a GSP come in that had previously been boarded next door, he had lost a lot of weight and the owners were furious. We had to feed that dog 4 meals a day to maintain his weight, he was just one of those dogs. Never sat still for a moment.

This is not an excuse, this is just the facts.

We would of lost our job and been black listed had our employees ever seen us kick out at a dog or even shout at them to be quiet.

Hopefully he will settle down soon back into his routine at home.

Can I ask if he has been de-sexed? He could of learnt some of his leg lifting off other dogs at the kennels but will probably settle back down soon.

I was fully expecting him to drop some weight while in the kennel, but the amount he lost was disgraceful. He has been back at home for a month now and is looking as good as ever, but his behaviour is terrible. He has taken a workshirt of mine off the line yesterday and chewed it, and today he took a pair of my wifes pants off the line and chewed them.

He hasn't been desexed. He always marked everything outside, but hasn't gone inside since he was about 10 weeks old. I can handle that because it is an easy problem to fix.

I just regret not going and sitting in on some training sessions prior to leaving him there. I took word of mouth and reccommendations too seriously. A mistake that I'll never be made again.

That's revolting. If those are really their training methods you should report them to the RSPCA right away. And having a word to the people you got your recommendations from!

That's horrible, I'd definitely complain to the proper authorities. Did you get any photos of him when he came out of the kennel that show how much weight he's lost to provide as evidence to the authorities or something?

    Unbeleivable !!!!

How do they get away with that sort of treatment ? If I said what I thought about this trainer, I think I would be banned !!!!

I really hope that Apollo recovers from the torment given by this excuse for a human being !!!!!
