Default Jacket for the Cold Weather

As the mornings are getting cold I am wondering if I should get Banjo a jacket/ jumper to wear throught the day while we are at work..
Im not sure if thats safe though? what do you think?
He has a kennel with nice wool in there which is blocked off from the wind.. I might start putting a hot water bottle in there in the mornings..
Do you think thats enough or jacket a good idea?

What's Banjo's (hair!) coat like? Longish if that's him in the photo....should be ok I would have thought.

My 2 only have straw in the kennel (all other bedding ended up trashed and scattered round the backyard) but they also have each other to keep warm, if Marnie doesn't piss off over the fence.

Wool sounds very cosy! Does he ever pull it out of the kennel? Where'd you get it from? (sorry OT, just excited about the prospect of wool in the kennel!)

My whippets aren't wearing a coat thru the day, they love to lay in the sun.

So I would think your guy would be OK.

Like MAC said if it isnt too cold he could enjoy the sun and air on his skin but when it gets colder it could be a good idea.
you could get a light one, or a water proof one, or a heavy one, or one of each it really just depends on how cold it gets
we custom make them if you wanna talk more let me know.

Coats can be dangerous if left unsupervised... even if you think your dog is well behaved and won't chew it or try to get out of it bad things can still happen.
I have heard of several dogs hanging/choking themselves by just wearing a collar... coats would be similar.

The only dogs that truly need coats are hairless, very short haired or sparse haired dogs.

I would just beef up the blankets in his kennel a bit more... he can go in there if the weather is too bad.

Oh and if it is REALLY cold don't put a hot water bottle in there. Once they cool down they have the opposite effect of being an ice pack instead of a heat one.

If Banjo has insulated fur, then chances are you may be worrying for nothing.

However if he only has one layer as the pei do, and given you live in SA where we (Victorians) share the weather, I would look at a coat, no probs. I doubt they would be dangerous especially if you got one that had release studs or velcro.

My pack have a wardrobe twice the size of mine full of different coats for different conditions. For your purpose at work, you might look at the Drizabone. In fact Deals Direct have them on sale atm for about $25 instead of $50. They are lovely and do keep them dry in the rain as well as warm.

MAC.....I speak with Sue (Shar Pei - Hornsby) almost daily and you guys are almost still in summer up there (I wish) lol We are bloody FREEZING down here. I have the central heating on 24/7 now......completely different climate to you guys and we seem to get the weather SA got 2 days ago.....

    OFF TOPIC!!

Ashaari I am looking to get another coat for my boy Jethro, I have one that I bought but I don't like al the buckles and clips. If I post a pic (or preferably email you) of Millie wearing hers (which is the type I want) and give you the measurements for him do you think you could make one (I would also cover the cost of postage)?????? PLEASE!!!!!!!

Shar - Yes, velcro ones would be fine, that's what I have, for a bigger dog there would probably be no issue but with small dogs you can run into trouble. Some of the velcro on the coats I have bought have been so sticky, I struggle to get them off!
It gets freeeeezing in my bedroom at night (wood heater is at the other end of the house) and I don't leave the coats on them... just put an extra blanket or 2 for the cold nights.
I put a blanket over top of Cyurs when he hops into bed and it's still over his back when we wake up 8 hours later!

    Hi J&B

I sometimes put a wheat bag in Frosty's bed. I am fairly sure she'd eat a hot water bottle and that would be bad/wet/cold/messy.

At least with wheat you can just sweep it up but so far, Frosty hasn't been interested in eating it. I'm not sure if she appreciates it or not. Last night she stayed on the couch without me or the wheatbag so obviously not that cold.

I've got no idea about the coat. I know two beagle who have bugger all in their kennel and no coats, only each other to keep warm and they're fine. It's the stinky hot days I worry about.

I sometimes think about getting Frosty a rain coat, but she doesn't seem that bothered by rain either.
