I would report the petshop and tell your sister that she will have to get the dog desexed, vacinated and wormed before taking it anywhere. A vet check needs to be done because she will have no idea what problems this dog might have. Poodles can carry a HUGE amount of problems including sliping petellas and intolerance to some foods and heat spots!
I can not believe the gall of some idiots!!!! I would fight until that shop is closed down!

the problem is i dont know where she got it from, it was a pet shop near or in Melbourne, and i doubt she is going to talk to me for a while after the fight we had on the phone this morning!

I was very upset to say the very least, i know i have 2 poodle cross's but mine both come via rescue and they were both adult dogs when i got them. This thing could turn into any thing, you never know, it could also be carrying worms or other parasites that her kids could catch from the dog! and dont even get me started on the things that could go wrong with it, apparently from my online research both poodles and boxers have genetic issues, if the pet shop owner is promoting breeding from her as an option i would guess that this dog has come via that sort of arrangement so the poor dog could be any thing and it could be doomed to a life time of pain and suffering because my sister is a moron!

I know what you mean Crested. In Sydney a good quality Mini with predicted show quality will sell for about that price & upwards.

It just goes to show that because it was there and because it was impulse buying with no thought to suitability, I mean, going from thinking of a Pei to this is mind blowing.

They have to take the impulse factor away from people because obviously people are prepared to pay whatever price to be able to walk away with the puppy right now.

It's mind boggling and scary & makes me very sad, both for this dog and the dogs that are going to produce more of these dogs because greedy people will sell them and stupid people will buy them and there is far too many of both.

*sigh* Why am I no longer surprised when I hear these stories...I think I'm beyond getting angry anymore, I just have a massive feeling of disappointment.

I really don't get why this is surprising at all. Uneducated people will always buy without thinking and from wherever they see first (no offence intended, of course).

Question, is it actually ILLEGAL for backyard breeders to breed and sell to pet stores? If not, then there's no chance that the pet store will be closed down (at least for this reason).

I would like to see a cooling off period of say 24 to 48 hrs, so you can discuss, research and decide, there will always be idiots that will still take a dog home without thinking about it.

I guess the thing that really bothers me is that the process we went through to adopt both of our dogs, ie yard check, meet existing dog, wait 24 hrs, visit again, all before we could bring her home and she was an adult dog with health issues, we should have these standards for all dogs not just rescues.

Nope...not illegal....it isn't even illegal for registered breeders to sell to pet shop...at least not in NSW. It is frown upon, but not illegal.

there has got to be some rules about selling entire animals and advising them to be bred from. Even if there is not I would get the papers and such into them. Get public oppinion against them, talk to the centre management and such lodge as many complaints as possible.
I dunno I am just so pissed that someone would do that
