    Default Weirdness...(rant)

having 2 dogs both with skin problems we have gathered a largish collection of dog shampoos and conditioners, My OH went for a drive to the RSPCA today to deliver a boot load of food and a few almost full bottles of dog shampoo, only to be told they couldn't take the shampoo because the bottles had been opened.

they are all recognised brands and most have only been used once or twice, i was sure they would be grateful but instead i am perplexed!

I was also amused that this time they did not want to take the tinned food, they accepted the dry food but would not take the tin food because it is "woolies brand"!

You are kidding!!!! Did they make too much money on the Million Paws Walk?? Maybe next time, donate it to the Salvo's or Vinnies, surely people who have to rely on a hand out could also have dogs as well. I'm sure they would be very grateful for it.

Oh...my....DoG! That is outrageous. You could perhaps drop the food to the local pound? Or as someone suggested call the Salvos, I'm sure they know people that would love the shampoo. Are there any other rescue groups in your area? If someone asked me if GR wanted the food and shampoo there is no way we'd turn it down!

its a pity you are so far away or i would send it to you, we have 2 slabs of dog food, it was given to me but my dogs don't eat much tin food, it would be about 10yrs of food! Maybe i will call the food bank tomorrow and see if they can get it out to people struggling to feed a dog!

I agree with them. How are they supposed to know what in the bottles is shampoo? How are they supposed to know that you're a good person? I think people are naive to think that no one is that screwed or if they think people should trust them with no proof.

    They're just covering their backsides.

It sucks, but like silvershadow said, they don't know that it hasn't been tampered with.

So would they accept full bottles of shampoo?
Maybe you can just mix some similar colored shampoos together to make the bottles look full again?

I don't think any organisation would accept anything that has been opened. I know Vinnies and Salvos won't accept anything electrical even if it is new. They have to cover themselves.

I can understand the open shampoo because I have heard some horrible stories about things being given to charities.

But the canned food.... that i cant believe! I'm sure there are lots of hungry dogs out there who wouldn't give a **** if it didn't have a fancy label on it :S

apparently there is a privately funded no kill shelter near my parents place in the Riverland, So my parents have offered to drop it off at Moorook on their way to Barmera!

The shampoo will be offered to Moorook, If they dont want it, it will go in the bin, it seems like such a waste! considering at least 2 bottles are still sealed!

The RSPCA said that they could not accept it because they only use one brand and they have a contract with that brand, so accepting any thing else would breach the contract!
