    Default Home Made Elizabethan Collar?

Hi Guys! Can anyone give me some ideas on how to stop Roxy from licking her antibacterial cream off her stiches on her abdo?
I have to put this cream on as looking red and starting to get a infected but she licks it straight off if i leave her.
The wound site is very sore to touch so can't rub it into the site too much, i can only very very gently apply it. I sit with her for 15min or so to wait for it to start to soak into her wound but i can't always sit with her that long after applying it through the day.
I don't have an Elizabethan collar to put on her so was wondering if there is a way to make a home made one?
Till i can get one from the vet on Monday and get one.

I have never had to use on, do the dogs sleep with them on?
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Cheers Jess

It would be a LOT easier if you could go to a pet store in the morning and buy one.

Can I ask why you are putting antibacterial cream on the wound? Redness is normal in the first few days and stitches need to be kept dry at all times otherwise you run the risk of the skin softening too much and the stitches tearing through.
Just give it a pat down with a clean damp cloth several times a day and make sure you also pat it dry again.

Until you can get a proper E-collar I would put some vicks vapor rub on the hair on her legs. Don't put it anywhere near the wound, and don't put it on her skin.... just on the tips of the hair.

It worked for my boy when I got him neutered at night, it was stinky enough that he didn't really want to touch it when he was tired, but didn't help much of a day when he was awake so we needed the collar.

The reason for the cream is it is infected and pussy, Even though she is on antibiotics she still needs the cream. As a nurse i have seen many a stich site and this is infected.

Oh you know what-i didn't even think about the pet shop! I guess i just didn't think they would sell them was thinking i could only get one from the vet.
Will grab one from Pet barn or PetO tomorrow

Some pet stores stock them, some don't. Won't hurt to call in and see tomorrow

You can make one out of some stiff card and some masking tape for now if she is licking it a lot, but it would only be temporary as home-made ones tend to be a lot easier to remove

There is also a spray you can get that is an antiseptic and a bitter deterrent. I forget the name of it but my vet had some. It dries really quick so there is no wetness.
