Spirit does this all the time. Sometimes, her legs are right up the wall. I have to clean the walls regularly ....

Hey Amy, dogs curl up when resting to retain body warmth, but there are also other reasons, such as the feeling of safeness it can give them.

Much as we do when we sleep, really, depending on the level of comfortableness and temperature in our rooms/beds etc...

Best way to ascertain the specific reason Poppy is curling up is to look at how tightly (or clamped) she is curled. Really tight, she's prolly not asleep and is just conserving her warmth. Not so tight, she's prolly in safe mode and sleeping, yeah.

IME, Mollie likes to curl up, just because it's comfortable I think, but most of the time, she sleeps on her back, with her head pushed up against the crate-side and her legs splayed upwards. lol

My lot also enjoy a variety of weird and wonderful sleeping positions. Depending on how cold or hot they are. Gemma is a hot box so sitting or sleeping on top of her is a favourite.

Mya sleeps curled up on her bed in an evening but is often like Spirirt, up against the wall during the day. She turns a circle a few times before she settles into her curl up.

Jenna is definitely a dead cockroach kind of dog.

Gemma is a bit taller than a GSD. Not quite as heavy weighing about 30kg.
