Thread: Dog Walking in the Rain

Default Dog Walking in the Rain

Sorry this is probabaly a really silly question but as a first time dog owner and Winter fast approaching, I have to ask...

Are you supposed to walk your puppy/dog even when it's raining or is it okay for them to go a couple of days without (walking) exercise? (ie. just try and make him play indoors only).

Depends on the individual dog. Some need a walk no matter what, and some are happy to have a game inside instead. If your dog isn't really high energy you will probably both enjoy staying inside on the worst days. But in saying that, most dogs still like to get out for a quick stickybeak at the neighbourhood. Some certainly appreciate a warm jacket to wear out though!

Get a little doggy raincoat for those rainy days, have a towel by the door to dry off wet footsies, and enjoy the walk!

Lol. depends on the owner, not the dog IMO.

Some ppl don't mind walking in the rain, some love it. Others hate it, and some ppl get sick with colds at the mere thought of it.

My puppy hates the rain but really needs a walk!!! I let her have the first rain day off but on the second day we walk. She loves it when she is out and about but there is no one else out to pat her. She loves getting pats of strangers!!!

thanks for the advice everyone. So would I be right in saying that my puppy won't get sick from getting wet in the rain? that's mostly what I was worried about...didn't want him to get all cold and shivering; plus he looks so pathetic when he's all wet

will definitely look into the doggy raincoat...sounds like a great idea!

I spoil my dog rotten but have to remind myself that there are plenty of wild dogs that live in the wild and they do not get sick in the rain.http://www.dogforum.com.au/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I was wondering this myself after getting caught in a downpour the other night at the point of the walk which was furthest from my house - good to know they wont get sick
