My boyfriend and I are going to Bali later in the year and I keep hearing about how there are so many homeless, suffering dogs there. Several people have said that it's not so much the hunger as tourists feed the dogs, but the fleas - apparently these poor dogs are coated in fleas and it's just horrible. I haven't been to Bali yet, but I'm sure a lot of you have, is this true?
I had this idea of a program to start via 1 Fit Mutt, but I'm not sure if it's a little far-fetched or if it's even plausible, so I'd really like a second opinion. I was thinking of getting a whole lot of Advance or other type of anti-flea anti-worm pills, bringing them over to Bali, and feeding them to as many dogs as I can while there. I'm not sure if I'd have a problem bringing over so much medicine through customs, so maybe there's a way to buy this medication while already in Bali? I'd also need to speak to a vet to make sure this is safe for the dogs - what if Bali dogs have different immune systems and somehow react badly to the medicine? Now I know giving a dog a pill won't be a permanent solution, so if there's enough interest I could eventually maybe get other Bali visiting dog lovers to help, and get a different visitor to help distribute the medication every several months.
What do you think? Am I being naive here? Does this sound doable, or is it a bad idea?
