Default Idea to Help Bali Dogs - Need Second Opinion

My boyfriend and I are going to Bali later in the year and I keep hearing about how there are so many homeless, suffering dogs there. Several people have said that it's not so much the hunger as tourists feed the dogs, but the fleas - apparently these poor dogs are coated in fleas and it's just horrible. I haven't been to Bali yet, but I'm sure a lot of you have, is this true?

I had this idea of a program to start via 1 Fit Mutt, but I'm not sure if it's a little far-fetched or if it's even plausible, so I'd really like a second opinion. I was thinking of getting a whole lot of Advance or other type of anti-flea anti-worm pills, bringing them over to Bali, and feeding them to as many dogs as I can while there. I'm not sure if I'd have a problem bringing over so much medicine through customs, so maybe there's a way to buy this medication while already in Bali? I'd also need to speak to a vet to make sure this is safe for the dogs - what if Bali dogs have different immune systems and somehow react badly to the medicine? Now I know giving a dog a pill won't be a permanent solution, so if there's enough interest I could eventually maybe get other Bali visiting dog lovers to help, and get a different visitor to help distribute the medication every several months.

What do you think? Am I being naive here? Does this sound doable, or is it a bad idea?

Me personally would be more inclined to help out the disadvantaged dogs in my own country OZ.

But that's my own person feelings & we are all different & have different ideas..

Oh thanks! I'll definitely check those sites out, see what they do, and maybe contact them about the idea.

I would be trying to contact an organisation over there and see what you could do.
Whist you may feel you are helping by dosing any animal you see it would be a bandaid as the fleas would come back. With all due respect..and a hug, this would really only be of great benefit to YOU.

I would like to help dogs all over the world, not just the country where I live. It might stem from me having lived in three different countries and not really considering any one of them my one 'home'. But i understand where you're coming from, right now I just have my heart set on those poor dogs in Bali.

Of course I realize that the fleas would come back, which is why I mentioned that if there's some interest in the idea I could get medication to them on a regular basis, not just as a one-off. After all, Keeda doesn't seem to mind being "dosed" every few months in return for being flea-free . I'll definitely contact other organisations as well and see what I can do, thanks!
