    Default Kennel Cough

    Hi all,

as most of you know my OH and I adopted minty on friday, she seemed fine, but now she has developed a cough and sneeze thing, Pepsi also has it today! I think it might be kennel cough!

They both have appointments at the vet tomorrow but is there anything i can do, they are both miserable, i am keeping them warm and calm, i have given them both some honey but they seem so sad.

    thanks in advance

In most cases, Kennel Cough doesn't require a trip to the vet but to be on the safe side, still go.

Keep at it with the honey, this worked well for my Pipi when she had it.

If the cough becomes severe, I would ask your vet for antibiotics if they think it is necessary.

Have your dogs had the Kennel Cough vaccination?

All the best, keep us posted..

It sure sounds like KC though.

No running around getting excited...keep as quiet as possible

I have just had 3 dogs with KC

So even though my 2 got vax'd last week for it they could still get it?

pepsi has had her vac but i have no idea about minty, i was taking them to the vet tomorrow for a check up and for pepsi to have a follow up.

I also wanted the vet to check over Mini just to make sure there was nothing else we needed to keep an eye on.

they both seem a bit brighter now, they just had the left over chicken from making soup, I boiled a whole chook and pulled all the meat off of it and the dogs got a bowl each, so they seem happy and content. just a bit coughy and snotty, and i hate dog snot!

If they are snotty and it's yellowish then they will need antibiotics, if it's only a clear discharge then vets won't usually give the a/b's.

Keep them out of draughts, it's getting cooler at night so maybe a little doggy coat, and keep them quiet, the less exercise the better.

If you can get some manuka honey, it's better than normal honey. You can dissolve a little in their drinking water, or get them to lick it off a spoon, or rub it on their gums, it will help soothe their throats.

It will take 2-3 weeks to get over it fully.

Poor babies, lots of cuddles too will help!
