Default Tips for Taking Puppy to the Beach

So tomorrow OH and I are packing a picnic and going for a drive to our local...ish dog beach!

We have a portable water bowl for Poppy, a car harness, a lead, some dry food, a towel and some doggy poo bags all ready to go.

Any other tips for us to ensure tomorrow if a great day for everyone?

Have a great day!!! The first time I took my puppy to the beach she got really frightened by the lifeguard 4wd that drives along the beach!! She also got scared of the helicopter that petrols the beach.

Thanks GAG! We will! I'm sure Poppy will have a ball! We will be meeting up with my cousins who have two Jack Russells. They arn't the friendliest doggies so we will see how they go with Poppy but my cousin has said if they are agressive they will be put in the laundry.

Then we are meeting up with friends at the doggy beach who have two BC's! So lots of new doggies and people and children for Poppy to meet!

Thanks! I'm hoping Poppy likes the water! She LOVES baths and water bowls so we will see!

Well we all had a FANTASTIC day out! And are all very tired!

I am honestly AMAZED at how seemlessly (sp?) Poppy fits into our life and what a pleasure she is to have! We are truly blessed! Corny but true!

We went to the dog beach in the morning to meet my cousin's and their 4yr old girl and 20 month old boy. Poppy is usually not too sure about children BUT she let both these cherubs toddle up and pat her!

When we got to the beach she bounded into the water and then realised she was wet and did the whole shake it off thing!

After our picnic lunch we went back to my cousins place and Poppy had a sniff around the yard and just relaxed. She didn't meet my cousins to JRT as her hubby had just come off a night shift and she new her unsociable doggies would bark bark bark when getting to know Poppy.

In the afternoon we went to meet friends back at the beach with their two BC's and children aged 5 and 7. The boys again went right up to her, gave her big cuddles and pats and she LOVED it!

We were in the estuary part of the beach where the water is calm so she came in with me and had a swim back to the shore where OH was sitting where she proceeded to do bath zoomies in the sand!

The two BC's loved her! They had big plays off lead and Poppy stayed close to where we were at ALL times....except for when she toddled off about 10m to do poos! Lol! She is very much a people person and LOVES to be right with us so was great to let her off the lead for a bit and know she would stay near us!

She got LOTS of exposure to other doggies! Big ones, small ones, medium sized ones! ALL of them liked her and none growled or barked which was great! She also got LOTS of exposure to children! LOTS of them wanted to stop and pat her! One little girl came over, asked her name, plopped herself down on the beach with her and smothered her with cuddles! When we got ice creams after our swim we had to leave Poppy attached to the purpose built leash poles (not sure how else to explain them) while we ducked into the shop as dogs were not allowed. We could see her and her two BC friends the whole time and as we were ordering this little girl on a scooter pulled up, kneeled down besides Pop's, gave her a pat and a cuddle then proceeded to tug at the tag on her collar trying to see what it said! All the while Poppy sat there not minding at all!

On the way home (1hr 15mins) she slept ALL THE WAY! Then had a bath then dinner then went back to bed again!

Just had to share my proud mummy moment!

OH...and silly Mummy forgot the camera! So no photos this time but will get some next time!

Glad it went so well. The beach can be so much fun.

Glad she didn't try to drink the salt water, that can lead to doggy vomit, especially in the car on the way home. Something to watch out for. Probably doesn't need any food except (recall reward) treats until you're safely home.

thanks hy! I didn't know that! Will remember it for next time! She did sniff the water and maybe stuck her tounge in but definately no drinking!

I didn't give her any food, just used it as treats!
