Thread: Boarding Kennels in Brisbane

    Default Boarding Kennels in Brisbane

    Hi everyone,
Having just moved to Petrie, Queensland I need some advice on the area.
My Husband and I have two dogs from rescue shelters. Both can be quite nervous, and are still getting used to each other let alone other dogs. We are going away for 5 days in March and I would be very grateful if anyone can personally recommend any boarding kennels in Brisbane. I have heard people mention Samford, Bowhill, Redgum, Paws & Whiskers etc. but I have also seen some horror stories! These are my babies and I would never forgive myself if they were left somewhere where they were not taken care of, as I am sure you can all appreciate. Any help would be great!
    Thank you!

I also cannot offer any help as I am on the south east side of brissy. Good on you for asking about and trying to find the perfect place to trust with your pooch's while you are on holidays. There are some rescue places over that way (I found some on Pet Rescue site)...they might be able to help you

I'm in the same area, and the only time I left my pups at a kennel, they got kennel cough.. I have vowed never to do that again..
I guess I can't advise on any good boarding kennels.

Have you thought of having someone house and pet sit for you? I've done it a few times and everyone benefits - we got to see somewhere new, and the dogs were well looked after in their own home. Sometimes the "grey nomad" caravanners will house sit for you (if you are in a tourist area) just so they can have time in a real house with a proper bathroom etc. Just another option .........

House sitting is a great option...I am lucky as i book my Mum and Dad in to mind the animals occasionally. They love animals as much as i do...

I am in NSW so no help really, though there are some great kennels about.
    I understand you concerns.

I would book in a time beforehand to meet them and inspect the kennels and the animals in care.

Ask if your dogs are able to be boarded together in a larger run or next to each other.

Ask lots of questions...exercise times (view the areas), feeding times and what diets they cater for, what are their strategies in extreme heat and cold? also a medical emergency or any concern for the dog/s.

Are Paws ans Whiskers AWL based in QLD? If so i may have some rescue contacts for you...

    Good Luck

I think someone to house sit is a great idea - i have seen a few services who do this around. I, however, have irrational trust issues, and have anxiety that whoever looks after our boy in our house, will leave doors, gates open, take him for a walk, be surprised by his might and off he runs, never to be seen again.....
For some reason I feel less anxious with pet motels...if i didn't have trust issues though, would definately go with pet sitter, as it makes sense to leave them in their home, but also I guess, my staffy would have a ball at a holiday with other dogs!!

There are a couple i've noticed in Acacia Ridge I'm going to investigate further, but I spent a couple of nights at Camp Tailwaggers on the Gold Coast (I didn't stay in the kennels - they also have motel style rooms and well fenced yards so you can take dogs on holidays). It seemed really nice and tranquil...

    Hi
My dogs have been with Paws and Whiskers for at least 6 years and we have been extremely happy. The people who run the place are really professional and are judges for dog breeders. I have a curly coat retriever and a mini poodle and they were both very happy. They are really clean and lots of excercise. Have friends who have used Bohill and they were happy there, although I didn't like the look of it.

I actually run a pet sitting business. If you are interested in this option I allow dogs into my home or go to your home and care for your pets there.

I'm based west of Brisbane and I am happy to give you my website if you want to check it out. I include everything in the rate from poop patrol to walks to home security checks and bringing in the mail.

If you are interested just let me know and I will PM you details of my company - if not I'll speak to a couple of clients and see what kind of success they have had with kennels.
