    Default At 6 Months, Heat???

Mollie is EXACLY 6 months today and just before, as she rolled onto her back for me to scratch her belly.
I noticed that her vagina was a bit swollen and their was a BLOODY DISCHARGE!

I thought dogs got their first heat at like 8months old!?

As soon as I noticed, I brought Mollie inside, but she has been with Boof (who is undesexed!) most of the day!

Can anyone give me any advice? Do I keep her inside?
    thanks guys

Every bitch is different and it ranges from 6 - 12 months. She is most fertile after 7 days of bleeding but her whole heat cycle will last 21 days. If you scratch her above her tail and she moves it out of the way of her vagina she is ready to stand and accept a mate. You must seperate her from your boy dog for 21 days or get her to a vet quick. IMO 6 months is very young for her to have a litter.
Good luck. My bitch was on heat 2 months ago and is the only dog in the house. It was still a really hard time.
p.s. she is now lying at my feet with a cone on her head after being de-sexed yesterday.

Yes keep her well away from all males, they can come on heat as early as six months. Fingers crossed you are not too late already

Little dogs come into season earlier than medium and large breeds generally.

6 months is a very reasonable age for a dog of her size to come in for the first time.

I gather since you thought she wouldn't come in until about 8 months old that you haven't had experience with entire bitches/seasons etc so if I was you I would phone my vet, explain the situation and go from there.

It can be as simple as injections to terminate any possible pregnancy but you need your vet to see her for them to make a decision as to what to do.

I'm curious as to why both Mollie & Boof are still entire & both not de-sexed already ????

I think we should maybe give Demi advice now, and question later...

She's obviously having her first heat. Most do at 6 months.

My advice? Book an appointment with the vet for a nuetering and/or speying (preferably both, but thats financially unrealistic) and keep them in opposite ends at the house. Its unlikely Boof would be able to impregnate Mollie, but its better to be safe then sorry.

Because of the size difference. It would be incredibly hard for Boof to succesfully mount Mollie.
Even if Mollie did get pregant, it would almost kill her to carry the pups full term.
