    Default Grass Eating

    Hi all,

Haven't been on here for a while, as I have no computer at my new job so time on the net is limited now.

Quick question, dogs eat grass to help them when they are sick right? So what happens if you have a garden that is all fake grass, would this be bad for them as they can't eat any grass or fine?

    Thanks in advance.

IMO It is better if the dog can get to some grass, even if it is just on a walk.

I thought it was done to make themselves throw up when they aren't feeling well, but not sure.

Prehaps buy a low level pot and get a turf cut off and keep that available for them to munch on if the need arises?

Yeh I think it helps them throw up.

Just I am thinking about moving, not for a while yet & love fake grass as gardening is just not my thing but just thought about Blue & if she needs to eat real grass for when she is ill, hmmmm, what to do.

    Hey H4P.

Perhaps if you want to you could keep a planter box of real grass?

The dog eating grass because of an instinct to help regurgitate is totally unproven, even today. Some dogs eat grass and then vomit. Some dogs eats grass and don't vomit whatsoever. Some dogs seem to eat grass when they are off-colour. Yet other dogs eat grass when they're as right as rain.
It's one of those things IMHO that will never be proven or fully understood until we can speak dog or they can speak english.

Do you mean fake plastic grass?

They put it down at one of the Royals one year and quite a few of the dogs got cuts from it. Considering a lot of show dogs spend substantial time on concrete I would of thought their pads would of been harder, but it still sliced a few. It was down in the practice area.

It was a long time ago and was probably the cheap and nasty.

On the dogs eating grass thing. I had one that would crop grass like a cow, and didn't throw up, lived till she was 15. Most of the rest of them would eat it generally after eating sticks and such to purge.

Yeh that grass would have been cheap if it cut, I wouldn't want my grass to hurt my feet when I walked on it lol.

Blue eats sometimes & is sick & sometimes eats it & doesn't be sick. It's hard to tell.

But thanks everyone for your answers.

some dogs eat grass all the time, our dog loves grass, we dont have any at home but she will eat it while out on a walk. The vet said every dog is different, our dog never throws up grass but our dog is strange she will eat the bamboo in the pot out the back.
