DOL is NOT the place for discerning buyers - breed clubs are. Simple!

I always check local ads for dogs - thats how I got Leila - I got her so some bogan moron wouldn't...

It is darned confusing when you're learning about everything, it is also VERY easy to be duped when you're only just starting to learn about the right and wrong way to go about it. I agree whole-heartedly that the first place people should look is to their breed club. Sadly, Joe and Jane Public don't know that, they don't know where to go and mostly it is AFTER they have their pet that they learn and decide never to do it again...

Until the breed clubs start to be more proactive in showing that they are there this will always be the way. I don't know of ANY breed clubs at all in my area or near me. I honestly doubt that there would be many if at all here. I'm going to go and google after this and I'll tell you how many breeds are represented...

There are a tonne of morons out there with dogs on their hands. There are a tonne more willing to pay for the puppies. We need to start intercepting that cycle or it will just continue as it has always continued...

It's an online exchange network. You can only advertise in your area, or for items for collection, your ad gets deleted if it has any mention of postage in it. That's what I understand from the rules they have on there. I got nosy

I - as others here like Amanada do - go through ads to try and avoid the bogans getting the dogs.

I have never paid for a dog from a newspaper or net ad

I will pay for a well bred dog or for a genuine rescue

My apologies, I skimmed your post and inferred 'obtained' without realising that you meant purchase only. I think there are those who are just as bad for getting the FTGH dogs too.
What of the rest of my post? I have just searched and searched and I can find the local obedience club, but I cannot find any breed clubs. Where do I go if I wanted a pup?? I go looking to the papers, the rescue groups, the pounds, the shelters. There isn't really any other choice around here, and even for rescue and shelters I'm travelling at least 40mins to an hour...

I know I said I wouldn't weigh in on this again, but just had to say.

I was never a member of the Kelpie Club, they had nothing to offer and I did not agree with many things they were doing.

I am a member of the GSC and the Whippet Club. The Whippet Club has not listed my name nor many of it's members in their breeders page. Although I have had referrals from the President. I will be looking into this in April at the Whippet shows.

The Gordon Setter club is the best I've been involved in. Shame I not that keen on getting another, give new owners the very best of support etc.

Some breed clubs are only just surviving from one speciality show to the next.

If you are country and your breed club is metro or vice-a-versa it can also not be worth while being a member. Food for thought.
