Would probably agree with that MAC. The GSDC of Tassie is a joke. Well, their website for helping potential purchasers is anyway, IMO. Know breeders who aren't even on there. I guess it depends where you live and what the breed clubs in that region are like?

Look, how ppl advertise is their business in the end. Some breeders do use the local papers, mags, that sort of thing. Their perogative. Some breeders use DOL or other avenues, once again their perogative. Some breeders don't need to ever advertise at all - they have waiting lists a mile long, and when they have a litter it's a case of ringing through the applicants.

Everybody is entitled to their different opinion re how breeders advertise, but I sure don't want this turning into a debate that offends, upsets or alienates ANY MEMBERS for any reason. Thanks.

The GSDCT might be ****e - but then you contact the GSDCA for contacts OR breed clubs in other states. If you are serious about a breed you find out where to look.

What breed are you looking for Angela? If I want any breed I know how to find it in Vic - easy - NSW too.

Sure it is DA - ppl can advertise as they please - why should any one persons opinion be taken as gospel? I have my opinions and they are strong. They will remain like that. I have seen places like GT before. What's that godawful one called? The one where there are always fights and ppl are forever flogging off dogs.

I wish all of these sites banned the sale of live animals.

Geez Occy, hope you weren't asking me about what one site is called? I don't even know what gum tree is. Lol.

Hubby and I aren't looking to get another pup until after Batty is 12months old. My choices are Kelpie, BC or ACD. Hubbys are GSD (Short coat, Black and Tan/Black and Gold), Rottweiler (already know which breeder we would use if we went down this road) or ACD. We're still in the research stage at the moment. There's probably another 5 breeds I could list that I'd love to have one of each of (if that makes sense lol).

We're in QLD though, not NSW or VIC. I don't mind a little travel, but I'd rather meet the breeder and their dogs face to face than have a pup shipped sight unseen. Just my preference.

I agree with that myself. Unfortunately being down here in tassie now makes it all the more difficult to do that. Thank goodness for internet, e-mail, photos etc, but there always remains a risk when buying sight unseen IMO.

I know my husband and I are looking to buy another GSD in the near future. We may even end up using these tickets we have (from a prior cancellation) just to duck over to Vic and inspect some. But hey, that's only Vic - that cuts out the rest of the state to purchase from if we find one elsewhere that we think is just a brilliant specimen, or just right for our needs etc...

Well I gave you the QLD canine club url there - contact them for breed club details.

Sorry DA - there are heaps of brilliant gsd breeders in Tassie - you just have to talk to the breed club.

    What about breed shows people?
