Oh I misunderstood. I thought you meant your parents had bought an actual cattery. So, no need to be smug. (Another foot in mouth moment Boxer.) No-one's jealous of you now that you've explained it all.

So Boxerini, I am curious as to whether your mother intends showing the cats, or merely breeding and selling the cats?

It's a food for thought subject...

Many cat breeders show their cats, and like canines only breed from the best stock they can get their hands on.
But there are a hell of a lot of cat breeders who don't do any showing or genetic testing of their breed, but simply continue to breed for the general public who wants a specific breed of cat.
Now my question is, are those breeders frowned upon in the cat world like a dog breeder would be if they didn't have their dogs on the show circuit becoming Champions prior to being used at stud or as a breeding bitch?

What about the Labradors she has listed on her site that she breeds? Is she still doing that? Just curious....

EDIT - Whoops., ignore the babbling below, I missed where you said you were going into cats.
You can come pick up the dozen or so strays hanging aorund my parents house if you like.
Someone dumped a box full of kittens in the bush next to their house and they have started breeding.
Can't even catch the darn things in a possum trap to get them fixed.

    ----------------

Getting back to the original question my latest addition Cyrus was bought sight unseen.

I trusted the breeder which was the most important thing for me.
I browsed through all her dogs on DOL and loved every single one of them. I don't think she could breed an ugly Cresty if she tried (no jokes people )

I called her and she was extremely friendly and upfront about her dogs. I just felt I could trust her.
If I had have called a breeder and got a bad 'vibe' or they sounded like they were dodging questions I either wouldn't bother with them, or I would be asking for a LOT of photos, videos, copies of health tests etc.

I think it's nice to be able to pick your own puppy out of a litter but seeing as how the breeder knows their lines and their breed a heck of a lot better than you I would leave it up to them to pick which dog they think is best, both looks and personality wise.
