Well there goes the Dalmation too. Some of them have piercing barks. IMHO - the only dog you'd have a chance of training to reliably shut up when you asked, would be a kelpie. But you can do it with most dogs, ie get them to be quiet when you ask them to, eventually with some patience and some good aim with squirty bottle.

Boxerini, have you thought about asking around to find out what is being bred locally apart from your "friend"'s dad's mutts? Maybe a call or two to the vets in town would help you find out? And then you could go see their dogs and find out the pros and cons of having them locally.

So if you were say, 13 now, or even 15, and you got a dog next year, the dog lives for 10 to 15 years approximately - in 10 years time when you are 23 or 25 - what are you going to be doing and where are you going to be living and what will happen to your dog if you can't take it with you? Or will you only choose options that allow you to take your dog with you? I know plenty of uni students with dogs but they are quite creative about doggy accomodation. If you move to the big smoke - what kind of dog will adapt best?

And maybe you could adopt a dingo. They don't bark. They howl.

Avoid beagles if dog barks set you off.

What about a labrador? Both energetic, intelligent and lazy - happy to snooze all day if you're not around to amuse them. And a nice deep bark. And probably a lot easier to train than a Weim or a Dally. However, a lot more obnoxious if you don't train it.

Most of my Kelpie's barked very little. They sound no different to BC's and ACD's. I find BC's bark more than Kelpie's when excited. Kelpie's have more eye.

And again I say show lines because workers can be bred on lines with bark and push, eye, bite and so on depending on their area of work - yards, sheds, paddock.

I don't think you have a clue what you want Boxer.

Every dog will bark. Almost every dog starts out with a very high pitched puppy bark which IMO is worse than any other bark...

SWF's do agility just fine, stick with Bella until you're older and you have a plan in place for your future.

Then when you have a great deal of stability, maturity and capability to care for two adequately, get a 2nd dog and start training.

Am staying away from this thread now because the teeny bopper is giving me the sh*ts...

WHat about just a good old fashioned Dingo? They don't really bark! They are rather nice as long as you can get a pure breed.

I am not going to be getting a dog for a long while, because we have just had a very good offer - a Persian cattery, from a very good friend- cats, cages, food litter and all. I will not be getting a newdog. I will continue do agility with Bellarina, as I will not have enough time to train a new dog and look after the cats.

hehehe... now I feel smug. lol.
Well basically when we first moved over here three years ago we went looking for a cat, even though we werent allowed one in our place that we were renting. We came across Moira, owner of a Cattery, persians. She had a pair of exotics kittens, and we took one, Oscar. When we moved out we got a little white persian boy, but he was deaf and had an accident involving Romeo and the dark (RIP boy), so when we told her she offered a free rego'd boy, Leo. He was our last persian, the one that got taken by a tick (RIP). Mum met up with her when she was in the City and she offered us this cattery- Index
We have the choice of how many kittys we want, and which ones. They have a couple of Himalayans, which we will be taking if we decide to go for it. And we can take Oscars daddy Summaglo Appollo ( hes my favourite out of the bunch ) There is also a chocolate persian there, real good quality, but he was neutered, so even if we dont go for it I want to take him for my own cat. All of this is for free. (OMFG!!) the cats there are just drop-dead gorgeous. The website hasnt been updated for a while, so it hasnt got all of the cats on there but I'm not sure if we get the prefix, etc. She is sick of breeding, so she just decided she wanted to give her cats to a person that she knows adores cats, and she knows we have always loved and wanted to breed persians, so she chose us. We have gotten all of our cats, minus dads ones and Paris from her.
She is a very generous person, I couldn't believe it when Mum told me. We wont take all the cats if we decide to though. Just too much work, considering our other commitments aswell. Either way, Its not my choice. We get the cages, litter, trays, feed etc that she has ATM. I still can't get over it! Moiras amazing.
