It is illegal in all of those mentioned, except Serbia and perhaps some US countries. Don't know abot NZ. But although it's illegal I still see cropped/docked dogs on international dog shows so I guess it's illegal just on paper.

Rubys (our foundation Boxer bitch in NZ-RIP Beautiful girl) last litter, which was the one we got Luca (RIP baby) out of, was around about six years ago, and Luca was docked. She died whe she was three of a bit of cartilage causing her to be paralysed, but as far as I know its still legal in NZ, but.... I could be wrong.

I think it's wonderfull to manipulate and cut off what nature has given to animals that have no say in the matter.
Yes truly wonderfull. Get rid of them blasted good for nothing dew claws while we are at it.

I was doing some research, and this is what I found on the NZKC website....

    'Tail:
The tail attachment should be high. The tail should be docked and carried upwards and should not be more than 5 cm (2 in) long.'

    There you go.

As with docking there are situations where I think taking the dewclaw off is necesary. I have seen far to many fine legged breeds rip a huge strip off their legs because the got their dewclaws caught and have ripped them off, Taking them off at birth is far less traumatic. But there are many breeds that it is not needed for. Like docking, there is a time and place.
IMO If you have a REAL reason to do these things, and it is done properly, it is ok. But if you are doing it just to make your dog look better it is not!

I sit on the fence. I've seen first hand the damage that can occur to a working dog because of having a tail. It's not pretty and is far more barbaric than docking it to prevent said injury.

I do think that docking should only be done for reasons like the above. For shows/fashion is immoral yes.

For those saying it is barbaric, fair enough that is your opinon but comments of "how can someone call themselves an animal lover" are uncalled for. I agree with that when it's the bastards who hack things off without anaesthetic, knowledge, surgical instruments or care, but when it is done properly I don't think it is barbaric in the slightest.

I asked my father in law who has had working dogs all his life and he has never had tail damage. He is in his 70s. It is more likely they get kicked in the head, maybe that should be removed too (said with a oh gawd said in jest look)

I re read what I wrote, he may feel like satan at times but my FIL does not have a tail. mmm meds must be kicking in.
