Default Does Anyone Think This is More Than Just Slightly Weird?

I think my brother is jealous of my dog.

He Pokes and shoves her around when she is just sleeping or lying down, and kicks her lightly whenever he gets the chance. He calls her dumb, and stupid and ugly, when she never does anything wrong and shoves her off the couch whenever she is near him, and he gets yelled at by my parents and myself, saying that she is just a defenseless dog, and then he blames it on Bella because apparently 'she stinks', even after she has just had a bath the day before. its always his excuse, and its getting beyond ridiculous. I think Bella is going to turn around and snap at him one day, because he kicks her whenever she is sleeping. We have told him thats exactly what will happen if hes not careful, and he has said that he will punch her if she does. She is a very docile dog, and she really doesnt want to bite him, but I think she will soon if he keeps it up. What could I do to protect her and stop him from doing this?

    Rehome your brother

On a serious note, keep her away from your brother. If your brother doesn't like her near him then that is his choice, and one you need to respect. I think you should also take some time and talk to your brother and let him know that if he doesn't want her near him you will do your best to keep her away, BUT if you do that he isn't allowed to kick her, poke her or push her anymore. Ask him nicely to call you to collect her.

She may stink to him, you just may not notice doggy scent any more That's how it is with hubby and I. I don't notice doggy smells that much anymore, hubby does so I accommodate him.

Agree that rehoming your brother is the best answer.

Oh, I would rehoome him if i was allowed to. I was thinking about buying bella a crate/bed because she just sleeps on the couch, but apparently they are 'too expensive'. pfft. the one i want to get for her is $20!! I fi got her a bed, how would i teach her that the bed is a good place, and that she is only allowed on the couch when she is invited? do you think that might help?

I think its illegal though... to rehome him I mean. Which is stupid, because people get to rehome dogs and cats when they arent wanted.sigh.

LOL box. A bed can be anything. Shads had an old seat cushion thingy from an unwanted lounge chair. It can be a few old blankets folded and I encourage the pups with their occasional one in the laundry with a pigs ear on it and lots of praise. Dogs do learn in time. Pretty knows she can be on my bed while the sun is up but not at night. Did it the same way.

I use a sound as an invitation, a click click (like you would with a horse) done with the mouth to let mine know they are invited up when they know they have to usually be down. It has never created confusion as they know the usual is down when sitting around me but occasionally I want one in my lap.

yeah. Usually i dont let bella lie on me, but when i do, i say, 'come here puppy'.(remnant from when she was a pup) and then she knows shes allowed to curl up on/near me. I wouldnt click at her because it would get to confusing, what with me using it for the horses and all. sometimes I click at people though, when I need them to move. Bad habit. when bellas in the way, usually i say 'mush'. Works well. I think she must be part Spitz or something.
