Thank you so much Cleas. As you know I'm computer illiterate and didn't want to have to type it all out.

About the only thing it didn't do was show you how to build the Conditioned Reinforcer. You can use a word or a clicker. I like to use the word yes because it goes everywhere with me.

Say yes, give treat, say yes, give treat. You are not asking the dog to do anything all you are doing is building an association between the word and getting a treat, do this until the dog looks at you the second you say yes. Do not extend the treat at the same time as the spoken word. Now when the dog either offers a behaviour or you handle the dog into a behaviour you say yes and treat. The dog will learn to associate it's behaviour with getting a treat. So getting your timing spot on is the trick.

I call it a bridge because it bridges the time between the behaviour and the dog getting a treat. Once the association has been built it gives you time to reach for a treat.

I wear a little velcro pouch around my waist and the ripping of the velco has become the bridge for my dogs.

Best of luck with it all.

Ok...my show dogs are NEVER taught to sit first...they are taught to stand as in stacking when I say so. You might have an issue with the sitting...if you pull out a treat and she plunks her bottom to the ground every time. But that is just me

My husband always teaches them to sit, I teach them to stand, they somehow know the difference.

Probably because of the setting, the lead they are on is different and I say gait and not heel at a show.

Go to some shows now and watch people. My Kelpies were titled in both obedience and confirmation. If you get there to watch the BC people you will find a lot of them are dual titled. They may not want to pass on their tips as you are competitors but your breeder will want their dog shown to the best of it's ability so attain their help.

Do not give in, start small and make sure you win that battle.
