Thread: What Breed Makes You Think ... Eh!

Afghans are beautiful dogs, I'd kill for one, but then I would probably kill myself when I realised how much grooming was involved!

I'm on both sides of the scale, I grew up with Great Danes, but now I have a toy breed.
They both have such different personalities but I love them both.
Great Danes, the big gentle goofballs, Cresteds with their crazy energy and clownish antics.

And yes teacup dogs.... *holds in vomit*

I'd be rich if I got a dollar every time a prospective adopter mentioned they were thinking about getting a lab. So before I explained about the breed I would always ask them first WHY a lab. Yep, they associated labs with guide dogs, and apart from that the only ones they had seen were the oldies that would waddle around. THEN I would tell them the reality! At one point the rescue I was working with had a lab come in every week - usually because they were destructive, one had completely destroyed a back verandah! We found suitable homes for them all.

I agree MY 2 dogs might be mutts, but they give me love each and everyday. I LOVE that they dont fit an exact breed - that they totally go against the grain (or breed standards :laughs
Dont get me wrong, BYB's SUCCCKKKKKKKK!
BUT, I dont disagree with cross-breds being bred if the dogs are healthy, have been tested with a vet for everything, have brilliant temperaments. AS LONG AS THE OWNER/BREEDER IS RESPONSIBLE! (Having people who want the dogs BEFOREHAND, take the dogs back if it is needed, etc, etc)

    Just my 2c

Everyone is different and we all have different opinions as to what is right and what is wrong, we just have to respect eachother's opinions and give healthy advice when it is needed. Thats what is so good about this forum - SO MANY DIFFERENT ideas and opinions. Nobody is the same and THANK GOD FOR THAT!

Brittish bulldog. I think it may just be because of the one that I know of. Big price to buy, lots of vet bills for all sorts of breed related health issues, and I just can't seem to crack a smile in the same room as her no matter how much or how little attention she craves from me.

i like all dogs, but there are some ones that i look at and go.....and tell me, why would you want a dog that looks like that?

I wouldnt want a breed that everyone has, eg. labradors. I like them for temperement, but i like the grass outside of the box. Its greener, IMHO. I also prefer the purebreds. Ive never owned any cross bred animal apart from Bella. I ve never had a horse that wasnt registered, nor a cat that wasnt part of some particular breed, until Dad brought home that little annoying thing. I dont like wirehaired dogs, or those white terriers that have their curly coat trimmed so that they look like they have a roman nose, and with those little tufts right on the tips of their ears. In fact, I dont like animals with roman noses. I dont like the look of them.

I love the huge dogs, or ones that are real chunky bodily. I love boxers, and Dallys. I would love to have a dog that I dont have to bend down to pat them. Im the only one in my class at dog training that has to crouch down so that they can reach w/out hurting their backs/giving people a show of their undies.
And I dont like dogs that look the same much. I mean, dont get me wrong, Their is a BEAUTIFUL pair of black and tan mastiffs at DT, but they arent my cup of tea. (maybe a cup of tea would be good for my sore throat!! EUREKA!!) Sorry, got a bit off track. Im not a fan of GSDs, just cos to me they all look smaeish. But I have fallen in love with- I think its Tara?- on here, and there is a stunner at DT. And there is a drop dead gorgeous Weimeraner there.
