Yup. I have a Kelpie cross and he is NEVER outdoors unsupervised. I have bad dogs on either side, numerous neighbourhood cats (allowed to roam) that will attack dogs for no reason, plus there is too much danger that he will hurt himself.

Batty is crated indoors when he cannot be supervised and I won't have it any other way. It's just not safe enough IMO.

Yup my 2 are crated inside when I got out unless it's terrific weather. I also get weather alerts sms'd to my phone hours before a storm hits, so if they are outside I can get to them in time.

I guess the thing that really upset me is that he was there to keep them safe in a storm and he didn't. If he wasn't home and had no warning and it hit suddenly, that's different, but he was THERE and put them out reason a squillion why he is my EX husband.

I would be angry enough if I knew someone left my big dogs out in a storm, let alone a small breed.

Mine stay out in storms if they are out there but yea, I do prefer inside, they are not scared of them at all. I would be very upset though in a situation like yours if they were usually crated inside if anyone was home though. I wondered why you were not around and I hope all is well.

totally agree, i would be pissed if someone was home and put them out! I was just wondering what happened when you were not home

there is no way i would leave my dogs crated inside, i think it is cruel - Kaos gets UTIs if she has to hold it in, and they would get bored and hate it. I dont think i would ever own a dog and have it locked inside all day - but each to their own.

right now it is pouring rain, and I am at work, dogs will cope LOL

*meh* my dogs like their crates.. they just go to sleep and I never leave them in their crates ALL day.. the longest I leave them for is 4 hours.

I do the same. My pup has a habit of climbing out of puppy pens, chewing up everything he can get his teeth into and I don't trust my neighbors dogs to be able to leave him outside.
He goes in a crate when we go out for his own safety.
My poodles are confined to our kitchen and dining room by the use of a baby gate. I can't recommend these enough for people with small to medium breeds! In our kitchen there is nothing they can destroy so there's no need to worry.

The longest Batty has ever been left in his crate is 3 hours. He just sleeps or plays quietly by himself. I leave him in there for about the same time when I am home and need to clean too.

I can understand Kaos needing to be out I would do the same thing with Batty if he had the same problem.

Frosty has been in her crate overnight when she was little.

I don't use the crate much at the moment. She was left on her own in the house for while I was at the dog club comp last night helping set up. She could have slept in the car, but there were storms forecast here too so I didn't want to risk that.

Puggerup, maybe your other half had brain fade worrying about you?

Next time maybe Miss 12 can fix things up how you like and remind OH how upset you get when dogs that are not big enough to fend for themselves are left outside in storms. And maybe Miss 12 could ring the person who usually looks after them when you can't for you? It's a lot to ask but you could talk to her about it.
