Thread: Need Help with Transporting My Dog

I'm currently packing up my house in Vic and came across of the very ties you mention and I was wondering if I could use them, so there you go, I can.

I'll try to organise my own cage, I'm guessing it will have to be on wheels because Bruiser is just over 16kilos.

I've had a look on Ebay for cages, I'm going to Bunnings this week I'll see what they have I could use :-)

    excellent re elctrical ties.

Why does it have to be on wheels? 16 kilo isn't very heavy at all. Usually the animal depots at airports have areas where you can drive up close to the freight building to put crate into car etc...

Pet stores, eBay (a lot cheaper sometimes) will all have cages good enough for air freight. Talk to them and explain what you need, they should be able to offer good advice.

The one-way travel without stops and plane changes is certainly great. It's a real worry when you know they are being changed over and all that!

DogTainers are good when flying animals around. I always use them They are not too expencive compared to some of the other ones and they usually go out of their way to help me!
If you are going to buy a crate most airlines say that it needs to be big enough for your dog to stand with its head up and turn around without a hassle. Most crates are clipped together with plastic clips, the airlines wont let those ones on, BUT all you have to do is go down to bunnings and get some little mettal screws and use them instead
It is cheaper to fly a dog as logage than in its own right... which is stupid really but such is life.
    Good luck with it.

... I fly dogs a lot... can you tell? lol

They really do vary $$wise, don't they Poppyx.

With Zed, I found the dog freight companies ranged from $200 to almost $600. For exactly the same service.

Well he cost me $100 to fly him down in Dec with me flying as well and that included $60 for hire of the cage. I have all ready got a quote from Australian Air Freight of $295 and that's not including the "petpack" I have to hire from another company. So I'm guessing its going to cost me roughly $400 which is crazy! What I really need is to get hold of someone flying to Alice who wouldn't mind saying my dog is theirs and I can get him in as luggage Just a shame the Ghan was real cheap and now all my saving will get chewed up with flying the dog what we do ey

    It's rediculous isn't it?

You want to just be able to buy him a ticket, train him well and make sure he keeps his seat belt on and doesn't lick the air hostess.
    Would be cheaper!

Thanks to all that helped. I'm going to send my Bruiser back via Jetpet.
