    Default Dogs and Storms

Bad night for Inca last night. We had a storm, actual lightning and thunder. Probably the third time in 9 years I've heard thunder, so I thought it was wicked, but Inca did not!

It came on so quick in the middle of the night, that by the time I had ran around and closed some windows Inca was no-where to be seen. All we found was a trail of poo (yep, she'd literally **** herself) leading to a hedge up at the back fence. She had raced into the hedge, formed her own hole and was hiding in there. Poor girl. I noticed this morning she also has a tiny scrape on her face about an inch or so under her eye. That was close!

The sky is starting to look a bit funny, so think it may come again tonight. At least this time I'll be aware and prepared for it.

What have other's dogs done in the midst of a storm?

Ralph used to hid under his trampoline dog bed. It would make a terrible noise when he did it as his kennel is colourbond.

Oh no, poor girl... Glad she is ok now though. Leo hasn't experienced a storm yet, but JJ our old boxer would literally jump about a metre in the air every time the thunder struck. Was sad-funny-cute to watch lol.

Nah, just a small round piece of skin scrathced with a smidgen of fur missing. Had it been anywhere over than under her eye I probably wouldn't have noticed it. Just the thought of her crapping herself was awful, a whole trail of it across the deck leading up to the back yard. That part's not funny IYKWIM.

If it hits tonight, I'll spend a fair while sitting out on the back deck with her. But I think it's definately going to be an inside night for her tonight!

I gave her a bath this morning, she truly was a mess.

    Oh the poor baby.

I've been lucky so far, none of mine have been the slightest bit bothered by storms. Don't know how Mya will be, but her carer said she wasn't bothered by the New Year fireworks so hopefully she will be ok.

Give Inca lots of cuddles and tell her she can't get in a mess tonight cos you've just bathed her

aww poor baby girl Inca, it must have been terrifying for her, hope she's feeling more relaxed today .

Floyd couldn't give a rats about storms, fire works, gun shots etc, but he is absolutely terrified of hair dryers & certain power tools "circular or drop saws" , just great as my OH is a builder & he sometimes constructs custom work at home in he's "mans only" room aka the garage. To calm Floyd down I have to go as far as closing all windows, doors etc & have Floyd hiding under my feet or my back or i take Floyd out for the day while OH is using he's boy toys at home.

Zeppelin would whimper like a big sook & hide under my bed, coffee table or the dinning table, OMG he would pace & be all nervous hours before a storm would even hit, he was more reliable than the weatherman at predicting storms. Zep was just the same when it came to fireworks, gun shots etc,he would pace, whimp & be very nervous. Zep could'nt give a rats about any other noises tho, he often would be out in garage with OH while he was using power tools etc..

Floyd & Zeppelin are complete opposites when it comes to sounds.

oww poor baby!! I had an old lab and she never had any problems until she got bitten by a snake, she suvived (the other two cattle dogs and lab didn't!), but yes she only got the tad end of the bite so the vet was able to pull her through, but sadly her brain was a bit fried. After that she couldnt be left alone in a storm. Any other time was fine, but in storms she almost gave herself a heatattach every single time. Poor old girl!
Anywho the only advice I have to give is do not hush Inca when she is scared. Just sit quietly with her and let her see you are not scared... I know you prob already thought of this, but eh, I need the practice, Im re-writing our training manual! lol
    Good luck with her

    Lol @Ashaari. Thanks for advice.

AF, funny thing is with renovating this place we have power tools going all the time; sanders, drop saws, you name it, she's heard it.

But she was alone outside, so that's a whole different story for her I guess.
It was loud, even the boys said they got a bit of a fright, so I can imagine how scary it was for her.
