    Default How Do You Tell??

This is probably a really dumb question, but I was wondering, with dogs that have a set colour pattern for their breed, like Dobermanns and... I cant think of any more... those big tan with black masks mastiffs?? How do you tell the difference between dogs, if you dont know their personality? how would you tell the difference from a photo??

Even when you have a heap of animals the same colour and you do not know them most of them will have a different conformation so you can tell that way.

what I mean is, if you have two dogs of the same breed and same colour pattern with no markings, like dobies, how would you tell the difference between dogs if they were the same sex and you didnt know their different personality traits?

    Oh right, gotcha.

They are always different. There is always something that tells them apart.

like, perhaps, slight differences in the shape of the head and size?

Are you worried about getting your twins mixed up? I occasionally wonder the same question but I always think, well, a mother would always know who was who. But if my dog was lined up with 20 other brindle, bully looking dogs, would I be able to pick Asher out? I would feel guilty if I couldn't. But I bet your dog would find you quicker than you'd pick him out......and they say dogs don't know loyalty.

My mum has 25-30 German Shepherds and not one of them looks exactly the same.

Ah, yes - LOL. It's amazing isn't how people can tell the difference. I once had 8 Maltese at my house (2 of my own and all the others were visiting). Someone said to me, "How can you tell the difference?" I said with astonishment, "But they are all completely different."

However, I am the same when I look at dogs I am not familiar with: they do all look alike, but to the person who knows them or to someone familiar with the particular breed, they are all different.

Yep thats the difference ... I am used to looking at the differences and the similaritities with what ever breed I look at because I do it so often at the shows that I just do it naturally now I remember when it was harder for me. God its still hard with the horses if I dont know them and I have five chestnut mares lined up I have to look at their brands to know who is who before I get to know them lol
