Most NSW country towns seem to have off lead dog parks now. It is a NSW Local Government Act requirement. Ie I think this is how it goes, if you want to make all footpaths and public places "on lead" by default, then each council must have an Off Leash area for dogs to exercise. So there's one at Bathurst and another at Blayney, and Queyanbeyan and Cowra... etc etc. They vary in equipment - the one at Blaney doesn't have water, it does have a couple of benches and some doggy bags and bins that don't seem to get used, and long grass so you can't see the dog bombs coming. But they try.

Thanks for that Hy. I think I'll start by checking facts with my local council first. Who knows, there may be some areas and I just don't know of them or where they are.

DA: Im gotta do the same thing when we move. Apprently you cant exercise your dog on the town oval but the shire doesnt supply another area where you can.
So Im going to use the oval until someone comes and tells me different.

Get as many dog owners as you can to support your cause, any piece of land will do to start then as the council see's the area being used you might find them more willing to add the essentials, water ... all newfies need water to play...lol...

Aw, I've been wiating for you all day, with the pathetic hope that you would know.

seriously C&B, it's not good. Everywhere we drove around we got out the car and next minute see a sign - no dogs. It was disheartening, especially having to pile the boys and Inca back into the car all the time!

Will definately call them tomorrow. Will let you know what council say.

Well...we didn't do that, but we did end up on a beach we weren't supposed to be at. This couple started racing off with their two cattle dogs until they saw Inca realised I wouldn't tell if they wouldn't tell. We were desperate by this stage, and there was only man out in the ocean fishing...

    norty.

For me the issue is that Inca is just a puppy, and because she's a newfoundland, only a tiny walk each day at this stage is what's needed. Gets boring going up the street and back again.

Need somewhere to go. And the ability to socialise her is at the forefront too, of course.

my burb is having a letter box campaign to make the baseballers share our oval with the residents. We've really stirred up our local councillors but it's been done before but with no result. I might post a note on DOL about it to encourage residents of our council to make "submissions". Although the local govt act - says they have to accept them, it doesn't say anything about doing anything about them - they could bin the lot for all I know. That's about what they did last time.
