    Default Another Dog Attack

    Found this on ninemsn
A family dog that mauled two young girls and their grandmother has been trapped inside their southwestern Sydney home until a dog catcher can subdue the animal.

Police and paramedics arrived to a home in Nelson Street, Fairfield, at about 4.45pm (AEDT) on Wednesday following reports of a dog attack.

A police spokesman said the pet Staffordshire terrier turned on three family members and attacked them.

A 10-year-old girl suffered multiple bite marks and lacerations and a possible fractured arm.

Her 12-year-old sister and grandmother were bitten several times by the dog and suffered a series of cuts.

All three victims were treated at the scene and taken to Fairfield Hospital in a stable condition.

The dog has been trapped inside the family home until a dog catcher arrives to secure the animal and take it away, police said.

Police will liaise with the local council to determine whether the dog should be put down.

As the dog was an amstaff it will no doubt be reported as pitbull, staffordshire and bull terrier depending on individial journalists...

They must have had a terrible scare, I hope the girls are ok.

Poor kids would of had such a fright. A really sad situation all round. It's unfortunate that the Media don't get all the facts before writing the story but the "juicier" the story the better it sells I guess.

I can only imagine that the other thread turned into a **** fight over the breed of dog as usual. Then again when there are so many people trying to pass off their dogs as different breeds it's no wonder the average Joe Blow has trouble picking an Amstaff
from a Pit Bull, Bull Terrier, Staffy etc.

My thoughts are with that poor family, and with the dog. There was obviously some sort of issue for it to happen.

I wish the various news people would get it right. Each TV channel or Radio station change the reporting depending on how sensational they wish to make it. Different news readers have reported the dog being a staffy, staffy cross, Stafforshire or Pit Bull. Some mention the involvement of a cat and some do not. Some mention that the dog lived there, some do not.
It is an unfortunate incident and is it a case of the dog went the cat because he had never been socialised with a cat and the kids and the grandmother got their hands in the way of the dog going the cat, not that the dog actually attacked them?

The media will never get it right. They don't want to. It is not sensational enough to say "stupid owners but dog that had never been around cats in a house with cats, kids being kids didn't close the door correctly etc etc"

Where would the sensationalism be in that.

It's like saying I went to a pup and two rival bike gangs turned up, a fight erupted and I tried to break it up and got hurt in the process.

I'm not saying it wasn't scary for the kids and I'm upset that they were hurt in the process of saving the cat, but they shouldn't print any story unless it is the full story with the correct facts.
