So...we have started rearranging dogs areas here. They have their own bedroom and our third crate has been put in there for "Charly". We didn't want to do all these things on Sunday, so Sumo and Ruby would associate the change with Charly's arrival.

They will also be eating in their individual crates until I have had the chance to assess whether there is food aggression or not. I know Sumo can be a bit...this is MY toy...he is not aggressive, just pushy! Ruby is used to his antics and just go ...boys!!!!

We will be introducing the dogs in a neutral area and will be taking them for a walk together. That way...when we go home...it will be like Sumo and Ruby is bringing her home. We didn't have any problems when we visited Floyd, but that was his territory...not my dogs territory!

Charly has been living with a male AmStaff, so it will not be too much of a "culture shock" for her when Sumo and Ruby play (I hope). There is a lot of growling and barking, but it is mostly sound, so I am used to it.

We will be bringing a bag of cheese (thanx Amanda) and Steve will be the one offering the cheese to her since she is scared of men.

We wanted to have everything in place if she comes home with us! It is a huge change to go to a new home and if she knows upfront where her bed is...where she eats and that will not be changed...then at least we have started. It was definitely also for Sumo and Ruby's sake too. Charly will be sleeping in her own crate (thankfully she is used to and love crates)...in the same room as Sumo and Ruby, so she can feel like a part of the pack!

It is all about minimising the stress on all dogs involved and if you have a game plan...you follow it...that way hopefully things will become a routine quickly.

    Thanx Anne

We will get there with Charly. We have been there before with Rex and it took a lot of love...loads of understanding and knowing dog behaviour It is important for her to feel like she is a part of the pack here fairly quickly! This is something I can not do really...it is something that is mainly up to Sumo and Ruby. I trust my dogs...they are kind...goofy...balanced and happy and hopefully that will transfer to her.

Apparently she is a submissive dog, so that will help with Ruby. Ruby IS entire and will definitely tell Charly how is the "bitch" in this house and that is ok. I know Ruby...it will be short and quick and calm.

Sumo will just be...WOOHOO...another play mate...come outside and I'll show you how to dig a hole and chew the fence post

Clea, despite the excitement you are preparing yourself in a calm logical way which is perfect - you and hubby have such a wonderful attitude of how to best integrate Charly with Sumo and Ruby, it really warms the cockles of my little beating heart!

If all goes according to plan, Cleas, you know we EXPECT pics on Sunday as soon as you get home.

Oh all right, an hour after you get home.

What wonderful news, I really am happy for you. But I'm so jealous I'm going to go and sulk for a while.
