Default Time to Make a Decision About My Rescue Dog

I posted a while back about the rescue dog I have fallen in love with but is in Sydney.

Well OH went to visit her last night and I think he fell in love with her. She was very friendly but well behaved once she'd got over the initial arrival and sat there watching him patiently while he ate a biscuit. She can do basic commands and walks well. She was just generally gorgeous. The lady that has rescued her didn't really have anything bad to say about her so it's looking very likely we will go ahead and adopt her. The only slight worry I have is that she is microchipped as a "Husky' so I figure there will never be much chance of letting her off lead which is a shame but I can live with that. She doesn't look like a typical Husky though so it could be debatable that that is what she is. We will work intensively on Recall but i am prepared to accept it may never happen.

She's slightly smaller that Jenna and has a short white coat. She sort of looks like a short haired Jenna with sticky up ears. Her name is Mya, which I love, it was one of the names we were considering when we got Jenna

As long as everything is alright with Jenna (see other post) we could be a 2 dog family in about 10 days. Mya is being de-sexed today so once her stitches are out she will be ready to be re-homed. I'm excited but a little nervous, I've never had 2 dogs before so any tips about helping her to settle in and get along with Jenna would be most appreciated.

Aw, named after Mya, the lead Husky in that great Antartic movie, maybe?

TKay, what have they said about her ability to get along with a myriad of other dogs in general?

Yep I've got that one Hyacinth, so we will give it our best shot.

DA, Mya has got on with all the dogs the rescue person has at her property so there have been no issues there. It is still a concern that Jenna can't meet her before she gets here but Jenna is not a dominant dog at all so i am hoping things will go well. If not and we have done everything we can I will fly her back to her rescue home. Not ideal but I would never surrender her back to the pound.

Good luck with Mya Tkay! She sounds like a lovely dog, and I'm sure with training will eventually be okay off-lead. Even if she isn't at least you are prepared for it.

In terms of how Mya and Jenna get along, at this stage I'd say it is important to do the initial introduction in neutral territory. Your local park for instance.I know it will be hard if she's just got off the plane, but I bet she'll love the chance to have a walk. You have one, OH has the other, start by walking them together with some distance in between, but side by side iykwim. Then gradually decrease the distance. Once they are walking happily together, THEN you can stop and let them have a sniff of each other. Do the walk, stop n sniff things a few times and then you should be good to go home!

Then it sounds like she will turn out to be a great match with Jenna, TKay.
