I know...more like disgusting...it must be because they are at a Westfield shopping centre and they have to pay an enormous rent

Pepsi if I'd seen what you had I would of reported it too.

I hate the big shopping centre pet shops, I think they should go back to the old fashioned ones like my parents had when we were kids.

I've never seen a large pet shop in the city, so I'm grateful for that!!! They sound disgusting.

You guys are gonna yell at me for this...but..Well I don't find fault with most pet shops. The Chain ones, I hate (you all know which one I am talking about - the one you can find one or more of in every Westfield). I could tell you of dozens of stores I have been too that have animals in small, crowded glass cages, most often asleep or lying miserably. Admittedly, I have never seen them kept in conditions like that, everything was clean, but they never (nearly) get them out for a play. Not just dogs, but cats, birds, guinea pigs and even fish look unhappy in there. I won't mention names for fear of being persecuted for bad mouthing certain pet stores, but I have nothing against the independent ones. I have a brilliant one down the road from me called Brookfield Pet pavilion - best pet shop I have ever been in. It's a produce store, but sells tonnes of chickens, birds, fish, mice and rats all in the best condition. Also sells fruit *chuckles*. Love it, and I have never a bad thing to say about it. Independent ones more often than not own their store, so do not have to pay extravagant amounts in rent, as I think I heard somebody mention in a previous post. Chain pet stores are, in my opinion, the worst of the worst. I don't think the Brisbane ones do it on purpose, as I have certainly never seen any downright shameful acts of animal...(for want of a better word) abuse there, but they (the animals) certainly don't look impressed at being imprisoned in such quarters.

That is not correct in all cases Myf. I will agree that in these chain pet stores and many big ones, yes, unfortunately that is the case. But to say all is generalising too much. I personally have known many privately owned and operated pet shops that certainly do NOT get puppies from puppy mills.

very blood cute, thats what they look like, and that's what the pet shop banks on.

As I've said many many times, I've got no problem with pet shops, just the ones that display in the windows. And of course if they are dirty etc.

A few years back they mainly concentrated on the little dogs but now I've noticed our two pet shops in the large shopping centre are also selling dogs that are X boxer or X bulldog. These are the new "it" dogs.

The prices people are willing to pay is incredible and frustrates me but I also hope it turns away some people because they just don't have that kind of money on them.

My initial fight with one shop came when I pointed out to them that they were misleading the public by displaying small runt maltese as "miniature maltese puppies". The price was $1,100.00.

Those conditions sound abominable. I'd definitely make a big point to Centre Management about the proximity of unclean conditions to the food court.
