    wow, what a gorgeous dog. y'know the annoying thing? I had already written up my report. grr. anyway, my drawing is pretty similar to that. I dont supposethere are any breeders of the Azawahk in Oz?? Iwanna find out more...

    Nope. No Azawakh in Oz - yet.

    There are both smooth and fringed Salukis though:

    gawd they are so beautiful. I suppose they wouldnt suit wha I am looking for??

    They can and do compete in agility, but are not usually considered easily trainable. They are independent thinkers, so won't automatically obey for rewards.

    I used to do obedience with my Afghan years ago, and the number of people who used to tell me "You can't train an Afghan" or "Afghans are the dumbest dogs in the world" etc etc used to drive me nuts. They had to eat their words...

    He was so good we skipped half the classes at obedience school! The trick to training sighthounds is to work with them, genuinely as a team. They won't do something just because it makes you happy, but because they are enjoying it as well.

    Does that make sense?

    This is the way they work. You want your sighthound to fetch. When you throw the item for him, he thinks a bit like this "Why do I want to chase that? I can't eat it, and you obviously don't value it or you wouldn't have thrown it away in the first place! I'm going to bed."
