Thread: Fleas

    Default Fleas

    God people make me mad

Went to feed a dog tonight, she is totally covered in fleas and is raw where she has been scratching, she is covered in flea dirt and soooo itchy.

I cant understand how someone could not notice this? I have front lined her (couldnt get hold of owner and did it on vets advice) and written a note to her owners saying she needs to be bathed and all her bedding and yard cleaned up.

They are home on thursday and there is no way my washing machine will wash all the bedding she has, otherwise I would have done it myself.

I feel so sorry for the dog

Would be great if there was some way to collect them all off her and pop them into the owners' bed. Yep, that woul;d be great.

Disgusting maggots shouldn't own a dog.

When I was younger I used to do dog walking. I used to walk a big fat Blue Heeler that was absolutely COVERED in fleas. It was disgusting.
Being a 13 year old, its not like I could tell the owners and not look like a smart arse.
I used to wash it myself, except the house was obviously covered in them too because the next time I saw him, he was always infested again.

You do feel sorry for them though...

These guys do love their dog, i just dont think they understand all of her needs. They do not have much money, and if they make a comment that they cant afford it I am going to tell them to use the money they owe me to fix the yard up. I cant really afford to, but I feel for this girl so much

People sometimes ask me about training dogs. I show them some basic stuff and often tell them to start by getting rid of the fleas so the dog can stay focussed. I've seen many dogs with good training potential that can't look at me for too long before they have to scratch or chew.

Terrorbull, that's a really nice thing to offer to use the money they owe you to clean the yard up, but how do you know they will? It might be better to get them to pay you, then buy some frontline for them, and go to an op shop to buy some cheap blankets etc so they can throw the old ones out and start afresh. The Reject Shop has pooper scoopers for $12, a cheap way of collecting any poo lying around.

    Just a thought.

I hope they appreciate what you are doing, maybe you will guilt them into caring for their dog better.
