    Angry Irresponsible Dog Owners...

I am sick and tired of reading about dog attacks that have happened along public roads where the dog has attacked and along comes the owner leash in hand because they've let the dog off leash while walking it WITHOUT reliable recall, WITHOUT any control and the dog pays for it. WHY ISN'T THE OWNER HELD RESPONSIBLE? Fact is if the dog had been on leash the attack would NOT have happened!

When will these owners be FORCED TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! It is THEIR fault the dog got the chance to attack anyone or anything. If THEY had spent the time needed to TRAIN AND SOCIALISE the attacks would never have happened.

If parents leave their kids ALONE with dogs it is the PARENTS FAULT - NOT the dogs and the PARENTS should be (again) MADE to take responsibility for it. I don't care what the circumstances are THERE IS NO EXCUSE OR REASON TO LEAVE A CHILD UNSUPERVISED WITH ANY DOG.

It should be REQUIRED BY LAW that every pet owner MUST take a test before being allowed to own animals. I'm not talking about anything difficult, things like teaching people WHY they shouldn't breed Fido to Lassie in their backyard, WHY they need to train a reliable recall, WHY socialisation is so important then test them to see if they have absorbed the information. If they haven't they start again.

I am sick and tired of seeing the untrained, unsocialised animals being DUMPED at the pound because the owner is too LAZY AND IRRESPONSIBLE to take the time to train their dog.

WTF happened to common sense, morality and responsibility?

What happened to parents taking responsibility for their kids when they are young?

What happened to people THINKING before they act?

WHAT HAPPENED TO RESPONSIBLE ANIMAL OWNERSHIP?

If this offends you, I'm not sorry. The truth of it is we are a throwaway society and everything is able to be thrown away. Until people are forced to face up to their consequences there will be no improvement. In fact I think it's all going to get worse. Yes, this is just my opinion, but does that make it any less valid?

Frustrating isn't it. It's the undercurrent of society in general these days - evrything is someone else's fault. There is no such thing as putting your hand up that you made a mistake - and learning from that and moving on. You just find someone else to blame.

All this has been set off by my neighbours on both sides. The ones who own the cat that's always here have just told me they don't want him anymore and if I don't take him they're just going to have him put to sleep because... They can't be bothered with him anymore...

On the other side their untrained, unsocialised German Shepherd (who is gorgeous to those who are brave enough to stand their ground and vicious to those who run) was allowed to take himself for a walk this morning. He is registered as a dangerous dog and they don't bother with any of the restrictions he's supposed to have because 'he knows who to bite and who not to'.

I am just sick of it.

Join the gang Angela. I live semi-rural but still like to take my dogs for a walk each day. Out of just about every property comes some dog barking and following us.

Now they don't follow us for long and soon slink off back home but it is still a bit scary none the less.

I don't know why they cannot just close their front gates. One elderly man even saw what his ACD did while he collected the mail, but didn't say anything. I know it's all show and bluff and that you never see the dog unless another dog walks past, but I will not let the kids walk the dogs because of it.

Half the human race are idiots and no amount of education will change them at all because they think it's their right.

It does seem to be a sign of the times. Reduced responsibility. People don't seem to take responsibility for their children, their animals or their actions.

AGB...I complete understand where you are coming from and trust me...this post does not offend me the tiniest bit! I think people who gets offended by this are people who are "guilty" of what has been said in this post.

I want to touch on the throwaway society first. This doesn't just include everyday items in my opinion...it very much includes pets too. People purchase a puppy without knowing a DoG damned thing about raising puppies and when it doesn't go to plan due to their stupidity and ignorance...this puppy is thrown away like a defect washing machine...handed over to the RSPCA and put in the "all-to-hard" basket. Puppies and kittens are treated like "items" in our society and I think it is utterly disgusting!!!

Pet ownership......what happened to commiting to your pet FOR LIFE?!? A pet shouldn't just be "allowed" in your life when it suits YOU! The day you decided to bring home this little bundle of fur...you made a commitment to this pet to feed it good foods...give it adequate shelter...provide fresh water...take it to the vet when it is sick, shower it with love AND train it to become a good canine citizen! I think a lot of people forget this little bundle of fur does NOT come all trained and ready to serve you!!! It takes time...devotion...money...love...understanding and LOADS of patience! I shudder to think who many pets end up at the shelters due to their humans ignorance and lack of understanding things from a canines point of view! Dogs are NOT humans...they have very different needs than us. Does that mean you should not love your dog...of course not, but when you encounter a problem, try and see it from Fido's point of view and not from a human point of view!

Socialisation....YES...you HAVE to socialise your dog whether it is a SWF or a Rottweiler! I bet in 99% of cases where the dog is "aggressive" it is the owners fault! People have their dogs in the backyard and when they finally take Fido out...they expect him to know the rules of the doggy world...but it doesn't work that way!

Educating our children....just like with unsocialised dogs...some people expect their children to just know how to interact with a dog and major problems occur! How bloody stupis are some people...they let their toddler run up to a dog that is tied up and expect the dog to just accept this onslaught from a strange child with no chance of getting away. How hard can it be??? I taught my children NEVER to touch a strange dog, so why is it that difficult for other people?!? Are they just plain stupid?!?

People buying puppies without having a friggin' clue.....now THIS one absolutely infuriates me on soooo many levels! They buy first and ask questions later and honestly guys...it pisses me off! It could be questions like...how do I toilet train my puppy etc. If you had done your research BEFORE you got this puppy...you would be a lot better off! Questions like...why does my new SBT puppy dig and chew everything...or why does my whippet puppy want to chase our little bunny....ARRGGHHHH! Well guys...if you had done your homework BEFORE getting this little bundle of joy...you would know exactly why!

A question came up here on the Forum and I must admit...I stayed out of it in fear of exploding. The question was...do puppies sleep alot? Are you serious? I can't remember who asked that question, but honestly...are you for real?!? It is A BABY...OF COURSE it will sleep alot....sigh! I wanted to scream...do you know ANYTHING about the little puppy you have in your care now?!? What homework did you do before you acquired this puppy?

This point here is a pet hate for me...people buying puppies and then going to work full-time! What is the bloody point? Did you think of this from your puppy's point of view...being left for over 8 hours by himself...in a new house...with new people...with new smells and solunds....hmmmmm. And THEN we can't understand they chew up things...pee and poop on the floor...do naughty things like digging up our award winning garden and who gets into trouble for this....the puppy of course! AARRGGHHHH

BYB breeding and Puppy mills...sigh! People are in such a bloody hurry to get a puppy, that they do not care where this puppy comes from and it infuriates me! Amy said...don't all breeders do it for money? Are you for friggin real? GOOD breeders spend a lot of time, money, effort and years to try and eliminate undesirable traits/health issues in their breed. You ask peoples advice and then piss that advice out the window and get a puppy from a puppy mill/BYB or whatever you want to call it! You said "it was the last puppy"...yeah, aren't they all when coming from a Puppy mill!

Should there be a license for dog ownership...HELL YES! Should it be seen as a priviledge to own a dog...HELL YES! Should cross breeding be eliminated and made illegal...HELL YES! Should it be illegal to sell puppies in pet shops...HELL YES! Should there be a limit to how many litters of puppies registered breeders are allowed to breed each year...HELL YES! Should people start with educating their children BEFORE they get a puppy in the house...HELL YES!

Well put both Natty & Bohemiannic in regard to people not taking responsibility for their own actions & those of their children & animals. It ticks me off that people always blame someone else for situations they created.

Tara is a love with not a mean bone in her body. She's happy just to trot along with us, with her "big ball" in her mouth at the park. When a dog (& usually a SWF) comes charging through where we're walking & Tara thinks "OO, game of chasey" & starts to chase, invariably we get screamed at because we've got a great big GSD. We go really early in the morning to avoid others for this reason. We keep our eyes peeled & if we see another dog, we pop her immediately on lead. The park is full of big clumps of trees & occasionally we get caught out with a dog running at full pelt right through where we are & off Tara goes, thinking it's just a game. Lately, a couple of Whippets have been charging through as they're so bloody fast & can be right with us in a few seconds. Luckily, the people are real "dog people" & don't fuss at all when Tara wants to have a game of chasey with them. This is how people used to be. I'm not sure when it all changed. We used to have lots of friends at the park, but now, everyone avoids everyone else like the plague. Very sad really.

I totally agree, i firmly believe that owners need to be registered to own / buy a dog and to get registered they need to demonstrate that they understand what is appropriate and proper behaviour for a dog.

I asked the question about sleeping puppies. Of course I thought it was normal but I just wanted to double check! Hell after everyone telling me how stupid I was for buying my puppy from someone I honestly thought was a reputable seller (and still do tbh) and telling me my puppy was sick and had a skin condition I was PARANOID!!!

I'm not pretending I know it all! FAR FAR from it! BUT I have done my research!!!!!!! I have spent the past 12 months reading up on breeds and puppies and watching training videos online! I still like to get real feedback about small and maybe silly Q's. I thought this was the place to come for that! Apparently I was wrong!!!
