    Default Second Dog

Well my OH is thinking bout getting another dog but this dog will be a working dog and would go to work with him every day.

I have no problem with getting another dog, we have been talking about getting another dog for ages..

Well my question is would Boss get jealous of the another dog because it will be going to work with OH..

I know it sounds like a stupid question but i have never had two dogs at the same time.

If I only take Ruby for a walk here or out...Sumo will be standing at the door...whimpering...scratching the door...looking under it to see the shadows, so he gets VERY jealous...hope that answered your question

I'm always taking one or two dogs out with me at a time, but that's just it I always do it.

I also let one dog at a time sleep in side while the others sleep outside in the night run. This way they don't become as dependent on each other.

They have a little whimper at the garage door when one gets to go in the car but it only last for a minute.

They surround the dog when it returns and sniff and sniff.

Having said that when I had the kelpies whoever got taken out sort of got picked on when they got back.

But then I've got more than two so the remaining ones are not left on their own.

Yeah the working dog would be treated as a working dog, well thats the way my OH would treat it but he knows that its unfair for Boss to be a inside dog and the WD is going to be a outside dog..

WD would be with my OH most of the day.. but would be a home when he isnt needed.

    What does "working dog" mean?

Chained in the back of a ute all day?

Sitting under a tree on a building site?

    Herding cattle?

    Sniffing bags at an airport?

    Bit confused.

Many farms have the work dogs outside and maybe a couple of pet dogs that are allowed inside. There's usually plenty of space to have clearly defined boundaries.

Your first dog may or may not get jealous. I think it will be up to you to reward behaviour you want to encourage and make the consequences of undesirable behaviour, moderately unpleasant for the dog. Or you will have two inside & work dogs.

OH is a livestock Agent. So it would be doing sheep work all day. We would get a kelpie.

Like i said if OH doesnt need WD for the day, it would be staying at home.

I don't see the problem with a second dog also being inside, if #2 is going to work with OH then presumably that will start immediately, so Boss won't know any differently. Might be different if #2 is at home for a few months and then starts going with OH.
