    Lightbulb Boarding/dog Minding in Adelaide

    Hi all,

We are going overseas in May and we are trying to work out what to do with Pepsi while we are away, i would love to take her but that's not going to happen. I am concerned about how she will be cared for in a kennel, one kennel i spoke to has individual boxes for the dog but they are all concrete and the dogs are only let out side for about an hour a day.

Normally my parents would look after her but that is not an option this time, they will be in cairns and i cant expect them to take her with them.

does any one have any idea?

    thanks

    Cass

Depends when you are going. If you're going in the not-fire season eg Late april through early September - I'd consider Top Spot in Mylor - I've had good recommendations and a place in/near Hahndorf - The Dog house - has good recommendations too. On the flat (sort of) if I really had to board my dog in summer - I think I'd use the RSPCA lonsdale. The worst I've heard about that one is one dog came back with kennel cough - but I think that's always a risk. I know someone who has boarded her dog there, it lost a lot of weight but apparently it always does when they board it. AWL might be ok too - and they advertise A/C kennels which would be good in summer. I think Frosty might be a bit worried if I took her there though, because that's where I got her from.

If you know any uni students still living at home, some of them make good house sitters and dog walkers - my neighbour has one of those in his place at the moment and she looks after the house and the dogs and gets to do all sorts of things that she couldn't do in her parents' house. Like having friends over. And I mean a few for dinner, not the all night crash bang parties.

Shame you're not in Sydney! Pepsi could come here and sleep on my bed lol (oops did I say that out loud).

Unfortunately I can't help with recommendations, ask at your local dog park or at a few vets, I'm sure there are people who do dog minding like I do.

Talk on the phone to get a feel for the place, then go visit the ones that you like the sound of.

Thank you for the suggestions, i might try and find some one who can live in with her, I got her from the RSPCA and i think it might stress her to take her back. It was bad enough when we went back to have a look at a play mate for her, she threw up all over the waiting area.

I dont know what circumstances led to her going to the RSPCA but i think there was abuse involved. she has a couple of scars under her chin and she is terrified of the check chain, even though we have never used it on her....i bought it for my GSD and he never used it either and it is still floating around!

Grey i am sure she would love your place, she is not allowed on the beds in our house, so that would be a real treat.

the cost of care is not really the issue i am more concerned about her mental well being, she is used to being home all day with her dad (my husband works from home) and to go from that to a concrete box seems a bit mean.
