I agree, makes it really hard if you don't know who they are or what they even look like.

So when the dogs go off and start whining/barking etc, what do you do? Are the dogs able to hear you if you walk out onto your balcony, or not?
We don't do anything at the moment - usually shut the door if it's open (not that it blocks it out in any way). Charlie and Bella don't bark back at them (phew!) but if they do we give them their"enough" command. The other dogs can hear me because if I talk to mine on the balcony it sometimes sets them off. Do you reckon I could go out and tell them to shut up? Or would I be that crazy lady who yells on her balcony lol.

Hmm.. coffee could be an idea...

Either that or I get a business card from our training school and leave it in their letterbox LOL

    Yeah, my outh!!!

I'd be commanding the dogs to shut up VERY VERY firmly. Don't yell and scream at them, which could make them react and bark worse, but I'd sure be quite forceful.

Heck, worth a try. Maybe no-one has ever told them to shut up, so I'd certainly try that.

Or clap your hands loudly with the command to shut up or be quiet. Even whacking a couple of rolled up newspapers together makes a sound that many dogs don't like.
