I remember when i first met Scoobie, we went to a mates house who had rescued him from being put down ( the owner couldnt take him to the new house), I thought what i beautifull lookin dog.The only knowledge i had of APBT were from the media, so at first was very weary, but after a few visits, and seeing his temperament we took him home and have fell in love with the breed.
My opinion is alot of people, not just "bogan" owners dont educate themselves on owning a breed of this nature, before doing all my homewok on them, i took him to the off leash beach and let him go for a run, the first thing he did was bolt up to another couple of dogs, lucky for me he turned around and came straight back. After some edumacation he's not let of leash at all with any other dogs around.

When we were investigating what breed we thought would be good for us (after owning Rottweiler)...I remember what Hubby said to me.

I mentioned the Staffy to him and he...NOOO BLOODY WAY! I said...before you judge...try and investigate....he said..NO BLOODY WAY! Well...he investigated (after me nagging him) and we decided to meet some of these Staffies in person. We went to Sydney for a National Specialty Staffordshire Bull Terrier Show and needless to say...we were both sold

Hubby judged them too without knowing them. I am not trying to ram the Staffy down peoples throat and I can understand why people don't like them/are scared of them. Even some "well" bred Staffies can be somewhat unpleasant. We have seen show Staffies at shows that are less than nice...trust me.

I was bitten as a child on the face by a Dachshund, but that doesn't mean I judge all Dachshunds.

I don't know any Pitt Bulls in person. Am I scared of them? I wouldn't say scared...I am weary, because I know what they were bred for and know what they are used for by some people. The same goes for Staffies...I don't like all Staffies. Some are dangerous due to being raised/treated a certain way...and poorly bred!!!

I look at Judge's "Bailey" and think...wow...she is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! The photos taken while they were at the river are breath....taking!
    Thank you so much Dorte

I also feel the same about Sumo and Ruby....I can only hope I will one day being able to admire them in person

I would own one, except the BSL is doing its job and I don't wanna risk ruining the rep anymore.
I guess the bright side is it's stopping people from getting a pittie..Except of course it's the ones who would be good, like you Myf!

I dont look at this as a bright side

IMO it stops the RIGHT people from getting a pit bull because they try to follow the laws and regulations etc and they want this beautiful breed for the right reasons.

It also makes it more of an ego trip for the WRONG people to get a pit bull and increases the chances of them being used for fighting etc.

    If that makes sense?

I kind of look at it like......drugs are illegal so people feel the need to buy them etc.

I definitely see your point of view. I think BSL is a very complex issue, but it's needed IMO.

BSL is not needed, what is needed is enforcement of normal canine control and containment laws, of which Australia has some of the best in the world
Australia has for the most part a piss poor attitude toward everything, its called the apathetic aussie syndrome, cant be arsed untill things get out of hand, then a bandaid is placed over the wound.

edit, as for cute puppies, all puppies are cute lol. but no one needs or should be swayed to like a breed because they are cute as pups.
