The kitten that was killed was playing with me in our backyard. The dog jumped the fence and got her. Mum made them pay to have a very expensive dog proof fence on their side. (The other side is still tin.)

    Hi DGP

I admit my brother's SBT is a bit of a chook killer given the opportunity. However they've got their own chook run at the moment and it's been all good so far.

However I couldn't imagine her taking anything from a child - not a kitten, not food, not a toy, not even a bone. Thanks to a lot of careful work by my brother.

So I wouldn't blame the breed - I'd blame the owner and that particular dog. And if you do ever meet another one that is savage - the last thing you want to do is show any fear. I'm thinking if you ever get the chance to go to an SBT show - it might be worth it just to confront how you feel with something hopefully a bit more realistic.

I do know not all staffies are like that, I just need to find my own way to deal with that horrific memory before I can take on staffy fosters etc.

    They are cutie pies though

    Hi DGP

I think if I were you, I'd avoid fostering Staffies and similar terriers for a while. Try visiting a few SBT shows or meeting ones with responsible owners first. An untrained or badly trained SBT is more likely to kill things and it takes a lot of work to correct in an already corrupted dog - and a foster - depending on why it's in rescue - might be more prone to this kind of problem behaviour. Hmm, I'm breedist too. Mind you if you can stop a JRT from killing things, you can probably train an SBT not to as well.

Oh, I wouldn't be fostering for awhile yet. I'm hoping to socialize myself with plenty of SBT before that comes into the equation.

I will take some over the weekend. They are all soooo big now. looks like most will be dark brindle, a couple will be tiger brindle, the two white ones wont change and little man "freckles" looks like he has a major case of acne lol. He originally had a pure white head, neck and chest ....almost looks like a dalmation at the moment....little black freckles everywhere.
