Alot of German Sheperds have been bred over the years for security purposes, i wonder if that has anything to do with it.
For me it just comes from bad experience.
Agree, for all of us I think past experience comes into, to a degree. Take my dislike of Chihuahuas - I've had more of the little bastards attached to my arms than any other breed - and not in a nice way! Lol.

Peter, i don't think it's because many of them have been used for secuirty. Those dogs are usually highly trained and always under control.
I think maybe there are too many owned by ppl that have no idea or understanding of their characteristics, temperament and what they require, or how to train them etc. But who knows? Too many BYB's also producing GSD's that really don't have a temperament that should EVER be bred from?

The Bedlington Lamb. That's what I always call them. Easier to have in the house than a lamb though. Lol.
