I would be seeing any vet that I could instead of asking untrained people on the net. Good luck.

Waiting until the 18th for an ailment that you have no true idea what it is, is possibly not the wisest action.

It may very well be what you suspect, and if so, then yes, get to a vet as soon as you can.

Once infection sets in, which it has once an abscess has formed and is visible - well, you really need to stop infection and possibly have the tooth removed (or the cause of infection) quick smart.

Often the longer you leave things the worse it gets and the most expensive for the owner, not to mention the extra time of discomfort the dog has to go through.

    Call the vet, please.

waiting till the morning to phone the vet is fine lol tell them what you suspect it is and they may get you in earlier.

IF this is what he has, then he needs to get to the vet tomorrow! If there is an abcess then he will have an infection and will need antibiotics at the very least.

If a tooth gets badly infected, the infection can get into the bone and the sinus cavity, and in severe cases into the bloodstream -resulting in septicemia (sp?).

Only the vet will be able to tell you what the lump is, if it were me, I'd be getting it checked immediately.

thanks, i am not prepared to wait, so i can get the tuesday one which i will book for now, but ill see if i can get another earlier one with someone else , there are plenty of vets around here.

also , like i said he doesnt seem to be in pain, i gave him one of those huge christmas ham bones last night and hes been crunching on that all night, theres only a 1/4 of it left, i know they use their 4th premolar for breaking things so how would he be eating? ....

    anyhow, thanks everyone! .x

One of mine gets hard lumps on her face in about that spot (taking into account her much longer face that is!). It is a hereditary narrowing of her sinus cavity that leads to a calcification called a sialolithic cyst. This was really hard to diagnose as it is little heard of, and just comes and goes with no discomfort. Her mum and brother both get them as well.

So don't rely too much on your current diagnosis, there are so many weird and wonderful things that it could be. If your dog is eating well and doesn't show obvious signs of infection like fever and listlesseness that is a good sign. It's important that you squeezed into an earlier vet appointment, but don't stress yourself too much.

    hi!
an update and i am so confused!!

as you know we got the earliest app we could! on tuesday ... the one who we haven't been very pleased with before.... and SAME thing this time , cost us $83....and he seemed more interested in us - not the dog! ......... he said he didn't know what the problem was and was nothing to do with teeth coz it was too high, good point, and gave us antibiotics (Amoxyclav 500mg) ... he said if the swelling didnt go down by Thursday then that isnt the prob and to bring him in to get it opened up ..i am not going back there!.. well i can tell you the last tablet he has had was this morning Sat, and theres is no sign of the swelling going down. so i taking him to the vet app we have booked on Monday with a good vet ..... hes the head of rspca here or something.

tonight - he put his tail in between his legs and started bolting in all directions.. i was getting worried. dad said they do it when they're in pain, he usually does it when theres a storm coming coz he hates rain, and he did it when an electric fence bit him. he also wouldnt eat and he just stuck close to me.i tried to see if he would focus, and tried to get him to sit on command or paw but nothing - he was somewhere else....i decided not to give him the tablet .. it wasnt doing anything for him!
i finally got him to eat his mush then took him for a walk, he was a bit weird on the walk but was fine when we got back and seems okay now, keeping an eye on him.

i seriously cant wait for this vet appointment! i have NO IDEA WHAT THE problem is and that bloody scares me =( ... i have been searching everyday for answers . on lumps and bumps of all sorts! i was tempted the after hours vet before ... but he seems alright
a friend said it may be a blocked tear duct but he doesnt have the symtoms, theres no leaking from the eye etc.

also i think it may have grown since i first saw it.....
    * this all started the tuesday before last when he started that jaw trembling thing, next day i see the lump, never seemed to be in pain but now he's acting weird! like he is.

what is happening to my baby :S
i am trying not to stress as he acts normal most of the time, but im pretty peeved at that vet for letting us down............... AGAIN!..............

update.. i could hear him a minutes ago and he was running again. now hes in kennel, which he never does! .. unless its practically hailing or something.

so unless theres a flood coming! i have no idea why hes acting like this..
