Griffen had cherry eye last year. We did a fair bit of reserch (sp?) to decide what to do. It can in some cases be massaged back in place but the chances of it coming back are pretty high. We tryed this with Griffen first but it didn't work so he had half the gland removed. It can be tacked back in place but this doesn't work well for Braccy breeds as the skin is loose and the gland can pop back out.
We were told its not painful to start with but it is irritating and needs to be fixed quickly before it starts to cause damage and does painful.

We haven't had any problems since his surgery.

It's a bit hard to see but his cherry eye wasn't too bad
This was the best photo I could find

This is Elwood. He was diognosed with a cherry eye in September but had no medical treatment until the first week of December when he came into care. This pic was taken after we tried to stitch it back into place. We actually removed the whole gland a week after this pic was taken. Poor bugger has suffered a great deal with pain and has made this 8 month old kid somewhat snitchy. OK, a lot snitchy - he is currently in boot camp being retrained.

Cherry eye is the result of the third eyelid "dropping" to protect the eyeball most often from rubbing usually by eyelashes. Won't go away on its own and yes it does become very painful after a few weeks

Kassie, please contact me if you are in Victoria and I will gladly drive to you, pick up the pup and have him attended to medically I will even pay the vet bill if necessary.

Shar Pei Rescue Victoria- that is so kind of you to offer to do that. It seems Kassie and her family are struggling and helping them to pay is much nicer than forcing them to give up their pets which are the things that are likely giving Kassie the most love and joy she will ever have

I am all teary now.. you are a beautiful beautiful person.
Now puggerup you have made me go bright red lol. Or it could be, that my halo is choking me - again!!!! ROFL

Like most on this forum, I would be delighted to help this little dog remove the pain of the cherry eye. I am just fortunate to be in a position where my kids have flown the coup and there is little we need, therefore, from time to time we can help others. I like to remember that what goes around comes around and I have had PLENTY of help given to me over the years!

Aussiemyf7, if Kassie comes back to the forum???? we may be able to work in tandum to get her dog to Clayton for the surgery??

Kassie, please message me your mums phone number so as I can speak with her and arrange vet care for your boy. You can tell your mum to have a look at our website too (she can also contact me from there if she wishes to) if that helps Shar Pei Rescue cheers Amanda
