    Default Dogs and Kennels.

Never needed a kennel for Zed, as he was a fully house-trained adult who slept inside the house at night.

I used to always have puppies sleep outside in a weatherproof area until they were house-trained and could manage to comfortably hold their bladders all night. After that, they would always sleep inside.

Now the breeder has informed me today that even though they have one old kennel laying around, the puppies rarely if ever venture into it, and no matter how much they've tried over the years their adults don't use the kennels either. They just prefer a huge pallet off the ground.

Problem is, I don't know if that would surfice for Inca. (Yah, I finally can call the puppy a name) The back deck is undercover and large and we would have to have a freak thunderstorm for the rain to get all the way in there, but I feel she should have some sort of enclosure to go in bad weather during the night. Or will she just sleep on the back doorstep, knowing my luck?

    How do others find kennels?

We have a kennel for our dogs...they will NOT use it even if their life depended on it

I don't know....maybe it is just the enclosure...but then again they LOVE their crates...hmmmmm. I have just accepted they don't use it. I thought we should have one just in case of massive rain or something, but they'll rather get wet than use it...sigh

Hmm. Maybe I should just invest in a crate instead, but a fairly enclosed one.

Our Newf we had when we were kids NEVER used a kennel. The verandah was the closest she would do. If we shut her in a kennel she would sulk and mope and be generally miserable.

Does this mean that Inca is little Spot and she's going to be yours??

My dogs kennel is approx 2000 mm wide x 1800mm deep and around 1200mm high at the front. It is also off the ground by about 300mm. It has an overhang of corrugated sheet at the front around 400mm.
The sides were fencing panels some of which have been knocked out during play fighting, the front completely open.
There is plenty of room for them to get in and off the ground and also being out of the weather, be it sunshine or rain.
The biggest problem has been keeping something in there for them to lay on as Nero removes everything with in 5 mins.
I was just laughing with my wife before how there is only a 1 sq meter of marine carpet still stapled down and how two big dogs are out there curled up on this one little piece out of the rain.
My dogs love it and i think its due to the large open front, no confinement.
I will post a picture of it if your interested.

Please do post a picture, thanks Peter.
After talking with breeder and seeing feedback here, I'm just not sure what to build/buy.

Yes Nattylou, hopefully little Inca will be the pup nick-named "Spot', but may be the pup nick-named Blaze. Either one by the looks of it. Woohoo.

I'm getting more excited every day...you all can tell, huh...
