I think his sore bits might be sore for a couple of days, and take a couple of weeks to heal up nicely. A bit like how long does it take a bruise to go away.

For the sore throat - a (half a) teaspoon of honey might be good. Let Nelson lick it off the spoon. It's soothing and it has some antibacterial qualities to help prevent throat infection of the bits that got damaged/irritated by the tubes. And yoghurt - a desert spoon or so of plain yoghurt per day might also be good - also helps if he's been given a dose of antibiotics to prevent his ex-nads wound from getting infected. And I'd feed soft food (eg tinned or home made casserole) for the first few days.

And if he starts chewing or licking the spot - you could apply aloe vera juice to the outside. Tastes horrible and is really good for scar prevention / minimisation. Large doses of aloe vera aren't good for dog but very unlikely he will want to eat lots of it.

that's good.. i don't really like antibiotics for myself, and i sometimes think vets overprescribe the stuff for cats, seems i only have to take cats in the door, and they need antibiotics. (not really, but... ) he is not off his food, has polished off some soft food with vitamin powder that the vet gave us, a good measure of kibble, and a good sized chicken neck, plenty of water.. he's doing ok..

i tried him on honey, but altho he worked hard at removing some from his face (he likes to be clean) he wouldn't eat any more of it.. i'll try some yoghurt later, i have plain no fat in the fridge.

thank you all so much. he should perk up a little by tomorrow i hope, he's not uninterested in things, but he's still so trembly, and sad eyed.. it will take time i know.

Yippeeee! Yayyyy! I just discovered the news, I'm soooo happy for you, and for Nelson, he's fallen on his little paws that for sure.

Give him a few days and he'll be feeling much better, and feeling more confident too. Fingers crossed it's not KC, but if it is, it's not a biggy. His nose may get a little runny, you only need to see a vet if the discharge is yellow or green which indicates infection and therefore antibiotics.

Ooh, and don't bath him until the stitches are out!

Give him a BIIIIIG cuddle from me!

oh good, thank you. i did wonder on bathing him or not.. i showered when i had stitches, but wondered if his would be dry enough, being where they are.. he is going to be smelly by then, as he is a little that way already. thanks too on the snot meter, i probably would have been at the vet with any discharge!

Zen, when Nelson's hair grows in, will it be grey or white? Curly or silky? I can't wait to see! He has such cute bone structure, he's sure to be a stunner.

Disney, here's a couple of pics of him when we first had him home, before the clipping. the hair was in a very bad state, and had to go... he could barely raise his tail as it was all so badly matted.. it gives an idea on what he might look like eventually. he is definitely going to be a cutie, and we will both learn how the grooming process will be.

just adding.. the pic of his face was taken just after we had cut away the hair that was matted over his eyes, no wonder he looked so happy.

OH he is pinch cheekingly adorable! What mix of terrier is he? Looks like there's a bit of Aussie silk in him.

    thankyou emma..

Disney, the vet said he was a poodle/silky cross, said his feet were definitely poodle.. so of course he has his first nickname.. poodlefoot.

he is a little more active today, still making that throat noise, but only a few times. can only improve.
