It's not being nice. He's encouraging you to break the law. You did do the right thing.
It's not up to you to decide whether Nelson's family 'deserves' him back simply because you love him. As hard as it is, please try to keep that in mind.

I cross my fingers that whatever happens is what is best for Nelson.

That's what I call responsible Mal, encouraging people to break the law.

Thankfully, zen has a conscience and a few ethics.

zen - Do you know the name of the girl you spoke with earlier? Just ask for her or when she is rostered on, then you'll know when to contact them. As with thousands of dogs that go into pounds every day across Australia, he will be fine.

There are many more in people's backyards and in kennels that are living under worse conditions. Don't fret about him.

Zen, I really hope Nelson ends up coming home to you, but as said earlier, if it's meant to be then it will happen. I understand how you feel sending him off to SDCH, but he will be looked after and he is safe. You have done the right thing.

I have probably taken about 8 dogs to my local pound this year, all dogs I picked up on the road. I hate doing it, but I know the staff look after them, and I always put rescue against them just in case no one wants them. A couple were chipped and were returned to owners, and all the others found homes straight from the pound - didn't stop me worrying whether the homes were the right homes or not!

At least you can keep in touch with them to find out how Nelson is doing, and you have your name against him - which means you are first in line unless his owners turn up with proof he is theirs.

thank you greysaregreat, i can certainly understand your worry!!

this morning i have email from the guy who thought this dog was his, and he is now saying (without he or his partner having seen the little guy at the Home) that he is -sure- this dog is not his. huh.

so we keep waiting to see if anyone else claims him as theirs in the 7 days, then he will be 'done' and we can claim him. because of xmas etc, we will have to wait a little longer probably, as the woman yesterday said. meanwhile that nice woman there i have mentioned should be back at work there today, and i am hoping for a few more details on his state of being. maybe.

i'm even more hopeful now! but i know not to get my hopes too high.

Just a feeling I have, Zen, so pretty worthless I guess - but I think you will end up with Nelson, I really do.

And this way, he will be yours without doubt forever, and no-one can come along and claim him at a later date (to my understanding.)
