Oh and by the way Dogman what exactly are YOU doing to help the problem's that are surrounding BYB's and puppy mills? Do you foster? Do you get out informative materials to the people in your neighbourhood? Do you donate your time or money to the people that are helping the dogs and cats and other animals affected by BYB's and puppy mills? It is fine to stand on your soap box and preach about all the stupid people that buy from pet shops, but I hope you are walking the walk as well as talking the talk as they say!

And before you start and come back with - Well what do I do? I do all of the above. I don't ask for grattitude and I don't stand on my soap box and usually I don't get the poop's so bad that I am slamming my fingers into the keyboard as I type....except for now. You ARE ignorant of the facts, do me a favour and read my post properly.

    Dogman

You call a number of people on this forum "stupid" by inference ie

you say "anyone who buys a puppy from a pet shop is stupid"
and I can vouch that a number of people who use this forum have bought their puppies from petshops. After visiting this forum, I hope that most of them are now better informed and would stay out of pet shops that sell puppies if they can't resist those big round eyes. Some have said so.

So you are calling some people who use this forum "stupid" because you make your sweeping generalisations right in this thread.

So someone who can't make a logically coherent argument? Is that a stupid person? Not necessarily. It does often look that way to many people though.

our very first dog was a pet shop dog.. I had NO idea, and i honestly didnt think BYB and puppy mills were over here until i started to really look into it..

As others have said, lack of education not stupidity mate

Oh and Hyc.. I love that about the academically vs socially, its very very true!! socially im fairly well in tune, academically im getting there, but some of my smartest (academically) friends are the stupidest (socially) people you'll ever meet,, its interesting..

    Hi Jodz

I'm one of the academically gifted and socially handicapped. Forums are pretty easy - I've got quite a bit of time to think about what I'm saying, but I still manage to get it horribly wrong from time to time. I think quite a few of us socially less competent prefer our dogs to people some (most?) of the time. It is interesting. Beware of people who have made academic studies of human behaviour - because they don't "get it" any other way. And oh the joy of observing behaviour and making the wrong inference about why the behaviour is occuring.

I did read something on that other forum, that suggested that breeders (and maybe the rescue places) have a day where the public can meet and greet their dogs, at a pet supplies store (eg PetStock). Ie provide a direct link for the wanna be dog owner and the ethical dog supply.

I have never bought a dog or cat from a petshop. That though has been circumstance and I bet I would have back through the years if I had wanted too. I had no idea till joining bird forums that bird Mills existed and it was also on those bird forums in OT sections that I learned of puppy farming. That was only a few years ago and I am 53. Stupid? Why would I be stupid if I had never even heard of it? I am a responsible owner, I tailor the pets I have to my family needs as well as the pet's so that we all will have a good shot at a wonderful forever life together. I, like so many many people hadhave no idea.

What a strange forum this is, once again who did I call stupid ? Had I said dogman your stupid, then I would accept responsibility but the way some of you are carrying on it's just unbelievable.

It seems if you agree with everyone else your fine, but if you have a different view or opinion then your jumped on like flies on you know what.

Maybe I should have said anyone who buys a second dog from a pet shop is stupid.

Dogman, I think perhpas it is your 'loose' way with words that upset. When we speak face to face with people, the person we speak to is able to read your body language and your tone of voice, and they add this to your words and come up with a meaning. On the internet, we only have words and these can often be misconstrued.

I am sure it is not intentional, but you really need to think about what your write. In fact, I can see that you really do understand what is happening because you wrote "Maybe I should have said anyone who buys a second dog from a petshop is stupid."
