Yes it is, but true. If pet shops have no buyers, they might get the message. As it's not against the law to mass produce dogs, and there are a lot of stupid people who buy pups from pet shops then the pet shops will continue to make money.

The pups they can't sell most likely end up at the pound, or die of parvo in the shops.

Pet shops have outbreaks of Parvovirus? Really? Bugger me, I don't know where you live, but that's a bit chronic.

I would never think that all people who buy their pups from pet shops are stupid, either.

Pet shops don't have outbreaks of parvo, most of the pups already have parvo and it spreads like wildfire. As puppy mills and BYB's don't vaccinate, worm or health check their pups or the poor dogs they breed from what do you expect.

Plus other health problems to long to mention, so as I said people who buy pups from pet shops are stupid as they should know better and are supporting puppy mills and BYB's all the way to the bank.

Dogman, your statement shows your ignorance of the facts, perhaps you should do some research and take a deep breath before posting on this subject again.

If I was to call you stupid for your previous posts would you not be insulted? Why should you insult people you have never met and people who have not been educated on the problems of puppy mills or BYB's?

If you had a child who was four and could not read would you stand for me calling the child stupid? Or would it be preferable for me to take the time to help educate your child on the best methods of learning how to read?

The two scenarios are no different - you cannot call someone stupid that has not been educated.

Educate first then educate some more.

Oh by the way - I must be stupid as I know nothing about nuclear physics.

Perhaps they SHOULD...but they DON'T...due to lack of education!

I think maybe you need to take a deep breath before you call people stupid again!

And I must be really brainy because I do know something about nuclear physics? yeah right. And then there is academically brainy, and socially brainy. Being really good at exams is not going to help you at the work christmas party.

I was going to post something about pet shops. Oh yeah. The one in the car park - isn't that worth a phone call to the RSPCA - after all if they will take de-barked dogs, shouldn't they also take ones held in tiny crates full of poo?

I'm thinking maybe instead of having the puppies in the petshop, they could have a computer displaying a web cam feed from the puppy's home. Or even a long looping DVD of the puppies at home. And then when someone decides they like the look of puppy they can go visit the breeder / shelter. And that would take the impulse buy out of it.

So I'm Ignorant am I, and pet shops sell healthy pups do they from wonderful puppy mills and BYB's.

I've never bought a dog from a pet shop for the reasons I've stated, and tell me where I have called anyone on this forum stupid.

There are plenty of pups and dogs in pounds and shelters all longing for loving homes, yet some people choose to buy from pet shops and in this day and age there's no excuse for not knowing where these poor animals come from. Unless you come from Mars.

Your reference to a four year old child not being able to read is strange, as the child doesn't buy the dog the adult does who can read.

The sooner pet shops are banned from selling animals the better, so the uneducated (if thats what some people call it) will be saved from themselves.

Very good post Cate. And Cleas.

I'm sorry, Dogman, but I would prefer to encounter ignorance from ppl any day than arrogance.

I didn't actually say anything in my post about BYB's and puppy mills being healthy and wonderful

I did not say that you said any one on here was stupid - you are how ever making a broad statement about "all people that buy from pet shops are stupid"

There are plenty of pups and dogs in pounds and shelters all longing for loving homes, yet some people choose to buy from pet shops and in this day and age there's no excuse for not knowing where these poor animals come from. Unless you come from Mars.
I agree there are more than enough pups else where that was not what my post was regarding - my post was simply stating that rather than call people stupid you should educate people not call them names.

Your reference to a four year old child not being able to read is strange, as the child doesn't buy the dog the adult does who can read.
My reference to a 4 year old child was pertaining to the fact that you would not call a child stupid that does not have knowledge then perhaps you should not call an adult stupid that does not have knowledge. Educate that person instead.

The sooner pet shops are banned from selling animals the better, so the uneducated (if thats what some people call it) will be saved from themselves.[/QUOTE]
I agree they should be banned - have you done or said anything to or about your local pet shop to bring this about?

DM it's called ignorance, not stupidity. You would be surprised how many people don't know what really goes on. It's the same for other subjects such as the maltreatment of livestock being shipped overseas.

People cannot change something if they are not aware there is a problem!

You say there's no excuse for not knowing where the puppies come from - if you are involved/interested in something you will be aware of certain things. How can you expect your average Joe Blogs to be aware of puppy mills if he isn't an animal lover who looks up all this stuff?
