It is a fallacy that registered breeders can not sell their puppies to pet shops Natty. I think if people actually read the various codes of ehtics of the state associations and the ANKC they would find a few things that will cause them to raise their eyebrows.

The pet shop near me on erindale road has one rescue pup in there, shes a bull breed of some sort (a cross breed so i don't want to get it wrong and call him something he's not) and theres a big sign saying he's from the dog shelter of XXXXX and he's so old and needs a loving home..

They're forever letting him out too, to walk around the store and win people over.. I hope he's not there next time i go in, he was adorable so i hope not!!

They do sell other puppies *eye roll* but hey! at least they're doing the right thing on ONE dog? That's a start.. maybe??

Jodz there's a pet shop near me that does similar things, a neighbour moved leaving their kitten behind (on purpose) and they took him for us and sold him (the alternative would have been a sad death at the pound). Of course they still sell lots of puppies but it is a start.

In the end pet shops would stop selling them, after all they only care about the money and nothing else.
