    Contrary to what you might think, I would also be interested in hearing the outcome. I stated before, and I still believe it, that if he isn't this man's dog then he is a lucky little dog anyway.

    Just with regard to this- the local pound here is pretty hopeless with getting dogs back to their owners even if they are microchipped and registered (and they are open for about half an hour on weekday mornings). I wouldn't have dropped the dog off at our local pound if I had the option of looking after it for a while, it would have been dead in less than a week. Cats are lucky to last 3 days.

    All states have varying laws on animal control TinaG. Most of the comments in this thread were in regard to NSW laws which come under the NSW Companion Animals Act. Our pounds must keep an unchipped dog for 7 days before sale or disposal and a chipped dog for 14 days before same.
