Default I Think I Am Nuts

On and off I am considering keeping Jodi (fat guts from my blue heeler thread.)
It is not set in stone yet.

I have before had 3 equally loved dogs at one time. If I do not find a suitable home the other female..Jessie will be here too. I have decided against homing her to the farmer that wanted her after further investigation. I am not even going to advertise them till after Christmas...six weeks old now.
Their traits are becoming so evident as individuals.
River is so inquisitive and bounds at anything, twists and turns..He is going to the right home, as is the one I earmarked early for my FIL. Actually he and Jessie have the same traits.

I have always avoided females,,personal preference.
Dislike or loath the puppy stage lol.
Jodi is the quietest and of the personalities of the 4 the one that suits me best. She would be best in a pet environment with lots of backyard space to play etc, inside outside as she loves her comfort.
I have missed having multiple dogs...Blacky died in 02.
Shadow was with me from a young pup as was Blacky,Pretty is still in parts of puppy stage and I adore her.

    hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I could have one or ten dogs if I felt like it and all could be cared for vet wise, housing, stimulation, care when we are away.....don't want 10 though.

Desexing would happen bang on 5 months or as soon as vet advises.

    Double hmmmmmmmmm

There is something extra special about a dog you have raised from birth.

No one else has shaped it's personality. It's totally yours.

You must keep at least one.

Oh De you will decide whats right for you and your maybe pup.

Like you said it wouldn't matter how many you had they would all be cared for equally! health wise etc.

Really at the end of the day you know you can have one if you want it.......

so the decision is (maybe not easy) but atleased you know you are capable if you decide to keep one.

Wish you luck with the big decision and hope all the pups find their special forever homes

I have never regretted for one second keeping Bailey and like Deerhound said...there really is nothing like a dog that you have raised from birth!

I didn't really choose Bailey tho...She chose me!

I had to hand-rear her from 1 week old!

But she is my beautiful miracle girl and she will be with me to her last breath!

Judge, I may have answered my own question, was thinking if I advertised, any enquiring would be told there is only one left and Jodi would be kept in strict reserve unless they could do better than me, lol.

Jessie, like Bandit and River would be a perfect working dog. Jodi I find I am looking at and actually saying hmmmm

Bailey was the quietest out of the litter right from the day she was born, sounds very much like Jodi!

Its rather amusing when the owners of the other pups come round to visit and Bailey sits quietly after a BIG WELCOME and then told to settle. They cannot understand how I have gotten a bully breed to be so quiet and obedient.

Well pssst its a secret ....I didn't teach her to be a calm dog, it was just her personality and its really not hard to get ANY BREED of dog to be obedient! Just takes some persistance!

You will make the right decision for you both and I think she will have a beautiful personality! Dont really know alot about farming dogs. Are quiet and calm personalities the best type for herding etc?

From what I read it is not the norm.
The other heelers that my FIL has or had are strictly outside loved and cared for workers. Shads was pet, he wanted to go in the ute and work so he was trained. He slotted in perfectly as a sooky perfect pet yet worker when he was doing that.

Pretty seems the same. I feel it is up to the individual dog. They are only part timers anyway and other dogs I had had no inclination nor was it asked of them, they were not heelers though.

As said, Shads was pet but would happily jump over my dead body to be able to go cow chasing despite at all other times being my shadow everywhere I went. Pretty was my FIL's working dog, almost to the stage of being trained with them when all this happened. She is a loving sook too, was inside here a few times a week, perfect pet UNTIL the ute goes as she wants to go too, lol.

In your sig which one is Jodi?

Ok so from what you have said I take it is really the dogs preference not so much personality?

Jodi is the one with the tongue, bottom right.

In my case they are here as pets, Shads was never intended to work but he wanted to so he did. Pretty was supposed to be a worker but looks like she will be both as well. As they are pets I then let them decide as they are not strictly needed. I let them choose as yes I want a companion pet but I also want them fulfilled. Jodi and/or Jessie if kept will also have that choice. Jessie I feel would jump at the opportunity, Jodi I feel would say stuff that, where is the nearest tree or aircon or heater...I could also be very wrong lol.

Pretty wants full comfort but I think would happily go off in the ute in a blizzard.
